2023 mid-season rookie draft

The thought did cross my mind, I don't think any club has invested four rookie picks in the pursuit of a key forward so it's unchartered waters but if it was to come off then you would have to say the approach has flipped orthodoxy on its head. Given Buller comes with a fair degree of flexibility I think it's workable from a development perspective.

Do we all agree we desperately desperately need a big body who can basically stand there with his arms up and not get bowled over. Seems to be two of them staring us in face.

So who signs off on selections? Mini?
Quick covert call to Leppa, who do u want for next year?

Buller is more like JVR, Hunter more like Jye Amiss, both styles relevant, Buller does look more AFL ready however, that would have to come into calculations if they are difficult to split.
Buller is (without checking back) 2 years younger than Hunter too, which is a plus in terms of development time still to come, plus longevity if he happens to work out. On that presumption (but unlikely for MSD KPF to actually prove a winner?) , I'm also thinking ahead to future years when Ryan is our ruck, Tom may have retired, so very handy to play a big KPF who can actually go into the ruck and let Ryan rest forward, or bench. Hunter's knee job recently is a worry too; as mad_tiggy says above, he looks a bit proppy.

Anyway, it all depends on who WCE take. Have they lost faith in Darling? Will they take Maric or a bigger type? If Buller is gone makes it easy for us - Hunter, or Tresize who has been a quiet burn, project type for us. OK, not the KPF we need but very handy, all-round type. Mobile, endurance (allegedly), strong mark, versatile height and LF kick a plus always IMO. Differing views on his kicking quality but plenty of time to improve if necessary.

I like Buller but don't think we want to miss out on Tresser ... unless bloody LolNorf ruin the plans.
Besides, I've come to my own conclusion that the club plans on developing Gibcus into the KPF to replace JR8, when he's ready.

Section from The Age:

'Eastern Ranges ruckman Tucker is another option for the Hawks.

If Tucker makes it past Hawthorn, he is set to be a Tiger or Giant. Richmond, who will pick before Greater Western Sydney, are also considering Trezise and 196-centimetre Perth forward Jaiden Hunter. The Tigers could make a second selection, too.

Hunter started the WAFL season in the reserves, but has not stopped kicking goals, including a bag of five at the weekend to round out his AFL audition, with Essendon another potential landing spot.'

Anyone know anything about Tucker?

Reckon Leppa has shown that he is a great line coach, addition to a coaching team, but not so much a head coach.

Others may need that quick call :)

Nothing personal so...

Think our ruck depth is actually ok, and you can always get a good ruckman for cheap on the AFL ruck roundabout. Would much rather we grab a key forward.

Why do I get the feeling that we won't get a KPF?

PRE server will melt from all the activity.

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion you’re spot on with this.
Would explain our total neglect towards investing in a developing tall forward like JVR whilst turning our only untried option in Bauer into a defender.
Should that switch work, it could be a masterstroke.
Gibcus dominating forward whilst Biggie and Bauer shore up the key defensive posts.
Add Buller, Hunter or May being developed as the second tall forward role to cover life post Lynch.
We may just pull off a miracle

I think it is and should be one iron in the fire.

I'm all for having a calculated crack at the MSD, but we should go into it with our eyes wide open, its a low percentage play. Finding a solid second string KPP would be a massive win.

He sounds like another Samsun Ryan, so why? Unless Soldo is done, or the club is willing to cut him?

Maybe we have someone on the hook for a 2nd rounder for Soldo.

Maybe something like that pick and our 2nd might get GC's first, don't know, time will tell.

I cant believe the lack of love on here for Quinton "Sparkle" Narkle! You just know we are going to take him.
