2023 mid-season rookie draft

Such a shame we can't draft a physical performance manager in the msd
Steve Morris’s report from the VFL in round 2 when Seth played his one game and looked so impressive at HF (just to make us all cry a bit more about how badly we’ve mismanaged his adductor injury )IMG_0896.jpeg

Interesting mix of players, some real big units in this list. On our boys, El Nour has been injured the last month so not sure what kinda of physical testing he’ll be doing? But before injury was lighting it up. From watching the VFL weekly, Trezise is a player who has really found some great form and is a versatile HB who can play forward too and a nice size at 188cm. Tough bugger as well. We have a plethora of mid/tall backs now with Bauer going down there as well, so I wonder if we’ll pick one of our boys or look elsewhere?

Teal looks a good prospect with plenty of upside and had 32 touches last week

Archie May fits our need and wouldnt mind him as a developing foward that has shown he has good hands

I’ll trust our recruiting guys but I’m still all in on May.
Kicked 1.4 and 2.1 in the young guns games. He turns the first one into 4.1 and everyone sits up and takes notice. Looks aggressive and wants to compete which are the two major ingredients I’m looking for in a tall

I'd be focussing on the WA boys listed in Twomey's tweet. We have a history here.

Buller as a 199cm forward looks like a chance to me.
Hansen Jr in a speed machine who Freo are interested in, as well as a number of other clubs.
Hunter is a very athletic player who might be able to fill a variety of roles.

I like Will Elliott too, reckon he'd be a really good addition to our tall group.

I'd be surprised if we took El Nour or Tresize unless we really thought we'd be losing any of Broad, Vlastuin etc at the end of the year. With Tom Brown waiting in the wings, and with Bauer being played down back, its not really a need for us, so a tall forward or a quick small sounds like the go for us.

Seeing as we have a pick before Essendon I reckon we,ll draft a kid out of the Essendon VFL side……

I watched Buller again on the weekend, hadn’t noticed before but a bit of a plodder. Not sure he has the enough agility for AFL. Good trier though.

I am personally not convinced he will make it, even though he is a good Claremont boy. But apparently a number of clubs are looking at him, and I am supposing we might be one of them.

Buller for me. We need to try to shortcut the system with this pick, if we can get a tall forward who is physically ready, it's a huge win.

Worth the punt.

We will jump Essendon when we beat them tomorrow night, Draft Order determined after round 11:

Draft to be held 31st May.

Clubs that participate in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft will select in reverse ladder order, which is set at the conclusion of Round 11.

Eight clubs currently have available list spots, with Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, GWS, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs all holding an opening.
