2023 mid-season rookie draft

Why not ??

Chances are the season is shot and we get the opportunity to get games into both Ryan & Miller and really get to see what they offer and how much fast tracking we can get into them. Archie May also goes into the ruck at times and offers an emergency backup we could get games into if we decide to go that way.

I see absolutely no benefit in Naismith

I don't see the logic either. The injury report yesterday seemed to suggest that both Nank and Soldo will also be availble by the MDS, so we would be drafting our 5th best ruckman in the MSD? Whats the point?

Guys, the ruck situation is really not that dire. Soldo is a test for this weekend and Nank could play next week, most likely the following week. What’s the point in getting a washed up 30 year old who, yes, he’s playing good footy now, but played only 2 AFL games in his last 5 seasons on the Swans list due to consistently being injured. Ludicrous recruitment if we go down that path.

I'll be staggered if we didn't select Mutaz El Nour.

Knows our system, showing great signs and potentially will allow Gibcus to play forward.

A bit of a wrap from the Young Guns V Vic Metro.

Anyone no anything about Hamish Pierson, a 195cm tall?

"The Young Guns side featured a host of AFL mid-season draft prospects, looking to push their cases for selection under the watchful eyes of recruiters from across the competition.

Jedd Longmire was impressive through the midfield across the day with 23 disposals, five clearances, five tackles and seven inside-50s.

Longmire, who stands 188cm tall, has been playing for Collingwood’s VFL side this year after being overlooked in his top-age draft year in 2022.

In the forward line, Dandenong Stingrays 19-year-old Ziggy Toledo-Glasman was a threat as he kicked three second-half goals among 13 disposals and six marks.

Inside midfielder Mitch Szybkowski (20 disposals, three clearances) worked hard, as did another player who was considered unlucky to miss out on selection in last year’s drafts in Luke Teal (18 disposals)."

Forward Ryan Maric (nine disposals, 1.3) and ruckman Clay Tucker (seven disposals, 13 hit-outs) both had some good moments after attracting mid-season draft interest in recent weeks.

Maric worked hard up the ground as a leading forward and won some nice ground balls for a player who stands 193cm tall.

The Young Guns will play a second match against Vic Country this Sunday, ahead of the mid-season draft on May 31."

Ziggy for sure, just for the name.

I just employed an old guy as a crane tech, Zbiginew (Ziggy ) Pryczek :)

I like this pick too; the kid is showing plenty of potential although maybe he's not ready yet. Will need more VFL games. But if we don't grab him; Dodoro well might.
It would help if Tarrant really is cooked and makes a tough decision giving us 2 picks.

Is the order of selections posted anywhere?

I have really liked Tom Brindley in the VFL. Against Casey he had 26 hit outs as an vastly undersized ruckman. I like him as an intercept back man. Has great hands and leap. Very Grimes-like. 195/83kg. 24 yo.

It's the ladder positions as it will be at the end of Rd 11(?) so we,ll have a pick before Essendon. Apparently we are looking closely at one of their VFL players ....

That's very interesting. Not much talent coming from Matt Clarke yet. The majority were either taken under Francis Jackson or Blair's pick ups. We really need some of Matt's draftees to start getting games and making an impact.

I found this tool online.

https://www.draftguru.com.au/lists/2023/richmond/build

Shows games in 2023 from what draft class. We have the most games played from the 2016 draft class.

Really shows the lack of talent we have playing seniors from 2018 onwards. And the game from 2013-14-15 hurting us now.
Thats a great site! I reckon it shows we actually have a pretty balanced list age wise, but highlights the importance of that 2021 draft- if 3 of them become regulars it keeps our demographic even.
