2023 Grand Final - Pies v Lions ... Australia Mourns!

Whilst I don’t think every GF performance has to be super hyped his set was a bit underwhelming.
It was more for a funeral then a grand final.
It was shocking.
If the AFL has 1 job to do
Tommy Tosser 'please go and find someone or group that will have the crowd jumping out of their seats"
'OK boss'

Have just seen the Beau McCreery handshake snub to the Auskick kid presenting his medal.

Wow. That was bad.

Left the poor kid high and dry while he then went to do some asinine, premeditated 'call me' sign with his hand.

No class.

All set to do a tom stewart redemption ad for next year…….but he might not be as nice a guy as old tommy boy

It's always a lame attempt by the player to make it up to the child by dangling boots or whatever trinket in front of them, of which a child will always say yes. It always looks done in the interests of PR damage control by the club and never because they genuinely care how it must have made the child feel.

Would love to see one of these kids or families tell the player where to go.

Darcy Cameron's was bad as well - basically just dumped the hat on the kid's head crookedly over his eyes and didn't shake the hand.

Still, Daniel Chick remains the clubhouse leader in this space - in 2006 he pretty much snatched the medal out of the kid's hand and put it around his own neck.

Lots of pundits bemoaning the fact that Collingwood seem to have so many ordinary players and they can't believe they won a flag with them.
Now where have I heard that before?

Grant Thomas said it about us which came across as a clueless comment as he couldn't comprehend a team having role players, we were ahead of the game in 2017. Furthermore, it was ridiculous to say as we had dominated the finals and pies won 3 games by a combined 12 points in finals won't be so lucky next year. This is the weakest top 4 going around. Port and Dees out in straight sets. Lions 1 win and a dozen-plus losses on the G.

Pies as we know have top-end talent every team has them but a team consisting of more than a 3rd average players makes you think how the * did this team win the granny, well coached I say, and in the eyes of Pies fans that's all that matters.

Now i call it as I did after the dees won 2021 and said they wouldn't be a dynasty team which everyone thought the Dees were going win 2-3 flags, dynasty teams have something different from the rest, I mentioned about Hawks and our Tigers that we had something different than the rest which took 4 years to unlock, damage done Tiges and hawks win 3 flags each. The dees are just a very good team and that doesn't mean a dynasty will just fall in their lap which we have seen them go out in straight sets two-years running.

Said the same about the Cats well guess most thought the Cats with 12 players over 30 they got their granny and knew they wouldnt win it this year.

And now pies not only because they will have 10 players over 30, they are currently the 2nd oldest side behind the cats.
Copying another team's game plan won't get you a multiple of flags but they did get one so kudos to them.
They have nothing out of their kit bag which screams they will be ahead of the rest for years coming.

When you look at the finals series, the Pis had about 35 less inside entries to Melbourne and got over the line as the Dees basically found every way to lose the game.

GWS were very stiff with a number of umpiring decisions against the Pies, two tackles that were so high they would have taken the nuts off a giraffe and he legging of Tom Green where the offending Pie was hanging onto his leg for dear life with both arms. None were paid, and then in the GF the hapless Lions who i thought would get the Pies on the outside, but never played quick enough to challenge on the outside getting that garbage advantage call.

It was a flakey flag as far as i'm concerned, but flakey or not , it goes in the history books.

The knocks on the Richmond side of 2017 were from the same people who had Adelaide as a hot favorite without realising that if you drew a ladder up from about round 12 onwards, that the Tigers would have been on top by points and a massive percentage. We were building as the season went, the defensive part came early, and the attacking flair developed as the season progressed.

In many respects, GWS were building this year but their trajectory was a fraction slower than ours and they couldnt quit emaster it in time, but they got mightly close. They, more than the Pies are the true Richmond DNA, the out number and ballistic run forward.

In my eyes, they would be my warm favorite for next years flag.

PS - I've just noticed a typo in the first line of my post 'Pis', but i quite like it, so i'll leave it as it is.

I thought it was a massacre. Collingwood 57/44 I50, 340/308 Disposal. Nine more scoring shots. Referees putting the game on for Brisbane (IKR?).

It was a game where a few stood out as below the level. I agree with jb on the performances of Darcy Poore and Starcevic. Standouts in a low talent GF. How Ginnivan plays AFL beats the *smile* out of me. Epic (Fail) Hipwood has always been a full back played out of position and could not touch it as a forward. The Big Ugh was thrashed by a blind American.

His season recently condemned by the All Australian selectors Daicos Byrne-Jones did those worthy denizens no disservice with his hilarious onfield pathos.

The ups were Tom (Normie?) Mitchell who showed the benefit of coaching. OTOH if you can't learn at your third club one was too many. OTO Mitchell has been coached and has been coachable. He was too classy for Lachie "The Umpires' Favourite Battler" Neale and demonstrated vastly superior values. Worked dangerous areas. Played tight. Used the ball forward and quickly. Lowered his eyes. SI. GA. Yes.

There was only one genius on the park and it was Jordan De Goey. He's still learning the caper but is emerging. Coming off the injury he wilted but set the game up when it was hot.

You don't get Brandon Starcevich every week but you still gotta kick em and Bobby Hill did that. He was brilliant. Along with De Speed he provided the glamour of the game.

Daicos the Greater started poorly but rallied in the second half. He was very fresh and looked rusty but he warmed into it.

Pendlebury looked gone mid year but was terrific.

While Harris Andrews was relatively circumspect on the day he was very good. IMO he's the standout defender in the game right now. (The role of Billy Falcon is a topic of its own.)

Joe Daniher was too big, smart and mobile for Moore and on the back of very few good I50s was able to capitalise.

I enjoyed the gmae. I rekcon most did.

One thing I'm enjoying is the continuous talk of Flog Stevic *smile* up Brisbane's chances. This could be the real * (asterisk - if only) GF win.
