2023 Grand Final - Pies v Lions ... Australia Mourns!

Fagan reckons Brisbane has only just entered its premiership window.

I get he has to say things like that, but I strongly disagree. It was hard to imagine them buggering up a better flag opportunity than what they had in the 2020 COVID hub year with the Gabba being the AFL's home. But then yesterday rolls around and they again proved incapable - against a team that had already played two gruelling finals.

Add to that the other finals campaigns they've played in the past four years. How many opportunities at a flag are they going to squander? Have they now missed the boat? Chances just don't keep presenting, and a grand final this year guarantees nothing for next year.

They could be up there again next year purely because they beat up on teams at home and can bank enough wins to push for the top four - but for mine they are unreliably fragile when it counts the absolute most.

Flaky pretenders when it matters; yesterdays score flattered them.

He's contracted until the end of 2025, which would bring him up to about 10 years at the helm. But as we know clubs can pay out coaches early. They'll stick with him in the belief that they think they're close enough. Next year is going to be very interesting - it's flag or bust for them for mine, but with another opportunity wasted, the window closes further again.

They're getting to be a bit like St Kilda were of the 2000s - and yesterday's tight GF loss puts them firmly in that basket.

Agreed. They should have lost by more. They were let off the hook that many times with misses from the opposition. And in that situation you've also got to be good enough to make the opposition pay - which they weren't.

Granted he was injured or overcoming injury, but someone like Jack Gunston would've been extremely handy for the Lions yesterday - has finals experience in spades and you'd have him kicking for your life. As seen with Pendlebury and Sidebottom - that sort of experience in finals is invaluable.

The media all day were playing down Brisbane's record at the G.
Barrett 'after yesterday's performance there record at the MCG has gone'
I'm pretty sure they lost again .
That record now stands at 1 win in 15 games.
That's Geelong quality during the 80's & 90's unable to win when it counted.

A forward line comprising Mihosek, Framptin and Ginnivan.

Rucks of Cameron and Cox

Retreads like Markov, Lipinski and Will Hoskin-Elliott, and they win a flag.

Without a doubt, the worst premiership. A 3rd of the Pies side is damn average. I have always liked Oleg but he would struggle to be in most teams best 22. He's probably the best from this list of 9 and that's saying something. Anyway, the only player I'm happy for is Marcov.

The more I read over these names the more I scratch my head thinking how the heck did the pies win the premiership.
In our peak none of these players would be getting games.
Darcy Cameron, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jack Ginnivan, Mason Cox, Beau McCreery, Oleg Markov, Billy Frampton, Nathan Murphy, Patrick Lipinski

Lots of pundits bemoaning the fact that Collingwood seem to have so many ordinary players and they can't believe they won a flag with them.
Now where have I heard that before?

Collingwoods forward line is frequently laughed at.
Elliot. Hill. Ginnivan. McCreery.

Sure there is no big man shaking it around
It doesnt have a Jack but those 4 are classy and hard working amigos.
Thats where their talent lies.

And Mihocek. Every comment is that he's hard working but not talented. And doesnt he consistently bob up for goals?
B grade. But the best type of b grade.

Credits due to their Forward line

Perfect example of why Brisvegas struggle to win anything important. Celebrate don't denigrate. Normally coaches and team mates are fairly quick to pull into line a smug smart arse that show boats and openly demeans the opposition ( general sledging acceptable ).
Brisvegas have a few players who regularly go above and beyond when it comes to a bit of the figjam when they've actually achieved very little in recent years

What are the AFL Gunna do for half time entertainment when KISS, ACDC, Tom Jones, Meatloaf (oh right.. ), Crowded House, Kylie, John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite , Mark Seymour, Barnesy Chris Isaac and every other artist from the 70s and 80s are no longer with us?
Trial by video ?

Have just seen the Beau McCreery handshake snub to the Auskick kid presenting his medal.

Wow. That was bad.

Left the poor kid high and dry while he then went to do some asinine, premeditated 'call me' sign with his hand.

No class.
