2023 Draft Thread.

Hold the line with our current picks, I'd be ok with Morris in that range, let's just aim for a Mihocek type and make a serious play for Cadman next year.
Is Kosi our Mihocek type?
I heard deal is done. He’ll play deep and Lynch will roam high half forward

Kosi is our swingman, I suspect there will be a fair bit of shuffling as players like Balta & Gibcus have stints up the ground. The fact Kosi is ruck height gives us plenty of options moving forward. I'd also be encouraging a surplus of talls bearing in mind these players need a lengthy apprenticeship. Morris versus Ollington is worthy of debate, I'm just waiting for all the athletic data to filter through.

So our pick 25 becomes 26 automatically.

Then you have 3 Gold Coast academy boys, our pick becomes 29.

Then you have Will McCabe and Matthew Croft, so our pick becomes 31.

McKay Compo pick our pick becomes 32, at the earliest. I said halfway through the year it would roll out to 35.

Got told I was crazy.
I reckon theres a good chance one or both of Cleary (swans academy) and Callinan (adel F/S) are in the frame too. My money is on both, if so 34.

What's the deal with McCormack? Can he be bid on in the top 40 or is this another Briggs scenario?

I'd also have Sanders in the top 7, ahead of Caddy at this stage.

Yep, Plus the Gresham compo pick to St Kilda when we goes to Essendon. Bingo, 35.

Trading next year's first to get into this years first would be a horribly short-term move.

This year's draft is decidedly average after 15, if we can get a couple of picks between 20-50 great but I wouldn't be giving up a lot.

If you can get a salary dump or help a father-son situation great but besides that I'd be taking it very easy.
Thoughts on Nick Haynes? Take his salary and get a good pick in return?

GWS academy, so they can match at any pick. He's as high risk as it gets, but I like him. Great to watch in the champs, but I think a lot of his success was down to being jed Walters foil.

I think the other 17 clubs should band together & tell the incompetent /corrupt idiots at AFLHQ that enough is enough.
Never gunna happen. There's at least ten of the eighteen clubs survive purely through the cap in hand begging bowl arse kiss structure that is AFL.

That should net us our first round pick back.

Its only 1 year so we'd need to give something back, but I'd do it. Take on $1m salary, add another 2 years onto Dusty contract and average the 3 out. Probably give back 25, but I'd do that in a heartbeat, I'd even throw in HRS if they were interested still.

Quietly see if there is interest in Vlastuin and see if we can get another pick in the 1st round. I've speculated that a club like the Dogs should be all over someone like Vlastuin, they aren't far away. Attack is a tick, mid is a tick, but their defence is rubbish. They have pick 17 which is likely to be swallowed up by a Croft bid, so they need to move it. If we traded Vlastuin and our Pick 45 for 17, then we get Pick 17 (I know it will drop back to mid 20's) and they get to match Croft with a few 3rd round picks.

We would then play Haynes in Vlastuins role, with some appearances from Brown, or Broad can also play the same role.

We wouldn’t have that much space to pay it all.

Depends what we do with other trades and what we do with Dusty. If we extend and average his contract out better over those 3 years then it could free up enough space.

You lost me at trading Vlastuin.

He's clearly just growing into his body but he looks like he has decent skills for a gangly giraffe, I see big upside once he puts on some mass.

My take on Ouzo is he wants contested players with decent foot skills, and getting Newman from a club that also has foot skills as a big emphasis ,shows the direction our game plan is heading.

All Swans academy can't be taken from swans if they match a called pick, and they get a 20% discount for stealing that pick, highway robbery.
