2023 Draft Thread.

Cherry pick lol. Compared to him guys at our club and someone who performed in year 2.

If he was at Southport he’d be Royce Hart 2.0 lol.

I find your responses to the GC/Allies info i provide really strange?

That aside,

When i say 6.50 2km is a pretty *smile* time,

Thats the Bell Curve, not really an interpretation..

Its officially 'below average' i beleive? But average at best

But taking your data set at face value;

Balta and JVR are Caddys height and cross the line in the 2km at 18 in the same bunch,

And went in the 2nd round.

Gibcus is an inch taller and is 50m ahead of them,

And went in the 1st round.

I like Caddy and he might go at 6? But his CV puts him firmly in the 2nd round.

Thats been my point all along, and i rest my case

North Melbourne has applied for a priority pick at the top of the draft, but Laura Kane's recommendation to the AFL Commission will instead likely be late first rounders in 2023/24, + a second rounder in 2024.

@NMFCOfficial would be free to use these three selections however it chooses.

Gil is strongly involved in the Commission's decision, which will come on Monday. Whether they adopt the recommendations remains to be seen.

(Which means the only way North can realistically get Ryley Sanders is to stockpile these picks and trade up the draft).

I think we should apply for a priority pick. We haven’t won a final for 3 seasons now, we don’t have a first round pick! Come on Gilly! You know it makes sense.

This is unprecedented, three priority picks has never been offered to an established club, to hand over a pick from next year is also taking the proverbial.

Agreed. At what point does the AFL just wait for the cycle to turn?
North made the finals in 2015.
They've top end picks that will improve the results as the players become established.

The objective of the priority picks has to be to get the team to middle ground. Not to top 4.
Get more chances for solid footballers, so picks in the 20s 30s 40s.

This was the year for the AFL to sit on their hands

North were in a position to collect 4 first rounders for JHF, they had their chances to rebuild but instead they picked up a player who was always destined to head back home. This type of mismanagement is now being rewarded at the expense of clubs looking to rebuild without the charity picks. Gill's socialism is rewarding mediocrity, it's creating an unfair playing field which is ripe for exploitation and it's penalising clubs attempting to do the right thing.

Yeah, it’s tiresome that this club keeps getting propped up and rewarded for continual poor management. They keep recruiting in spuds that don’t perform but are on big coin CCJ, Polec, Pittard, Stephenson, Bonar, etc etc and failing in developing the ND picks they get.

I would be more concerned about agility & speed in the case of Caddy, the naked eye tells me he has decent lateral movement but not necessarily explosive pace, the 20 metre sprint time will be interesting.

You make some very valid points EZY.

But does Caddy going top 10 say more about the quality of players in this years draft?

Forget 3 priority picks, its actually 5. They were granted 2 last year (that impact this years draft) that they traded to Freo. Now they want to give them another 1 in this years draft (as well as the old herbs and spices pick 3 for MacKay which is a joke) AND another 2 picks next year.

WTAF, as you say this is unprecedented to be handing such a poorly managed club this sort of a war chest. May as well just give them the premiership now as thats clearly the AFL's goal to gift them a premiership.

Doesn't matter how badly run, how often they *smile* up, how much money they drain from other clubs, how little relevance they have to the actual fan base of the game. AFL socialism simply means total control of everything by HQ while everyone gets an attendance ribbon because they turned up. Continual control through programmed mediocrity and financial irrelevance. Probably eight clubs sustain the strength and viability of the comp, the rest just parasite off the strong and healthy while ensuring that the actual game stagnates.

McKay is about to become the highest priced full back in history, pick 3 is a joke of epic proportions.

Pick 3 is the same as Smelbourne got for Chips Frawdley a few years back from memory, then later Hawforn got pick 19 for the Budwah. AFL socialism at it's finest. As for $800 a year for the mediocrity of McKay, that's simply an exercise in rank stupidity from several clubs desperate to be seen to be doing something n hoping for some instant gratification.

That's more an indictment on Essendon for offering that kind of coin for a bloke who averages 10 games a season, over 7 years, (won 8/71 total games), and the AFL formula.
He was a pick 21 originally, even that would be overs for him on output.

My gut feel is the purported trade for JHF was 4 picks incoming for #1 (JHF) AND other north picks.
Its reported as 1 pick for many but i think north were expected to include more than the #1 pick.

The $800k a year is only a ruse to guarantee Nth pick 3 in compensation. You'll find McKay will sign an extension with Essendon at a much lower rate. It's basically a heavily front ended contract.

A bit of AFL sanctioned skullduggery between the two clubs to ensure they both get what they want. Nth get pick 3 in compo & Essendon get the player they want.

It involved splitting the Callaghan pick which was going for two first rounders, their first selection would have been around pick 6 (Rachele) but they also could have stitched up 3 players from a pool consisting of Hobbs, Gibcus, Wanganeen-Milera, Owens, JVR & Johnson.

What Norf save in not paying McKay, they can use to pay the reputed $500k-$600k x 5 years on Fisher.

He’s played really well in the finals…..

IMO it's also creating a culture of Clubs doing what Norf have done knowing they'll get handouts when it inevitably goes pear shaped.

Agree in fact if I became head of afl footy opps,my first thing I would do is scrap the 20% discount on academy picks for gws, gcs, Brisbane, Sydney, it's completely unfair and no argument would say otherwise.
In fact I would add a 20% price on academy picks as u are unfairly stealing a possible pick 1 ,2,3,4 etc.
If tigers finish wooden spooner and Brisbane is premiers so pick 18 they get,to steal pick 1, any club would have to give 2 top 4 to 8 picks minimum .
Brisbane gets pick 1 for pick 10 ,17,that's miles off a fair price.
