2023 Draft Thread.

We can take 3 picks into the draft with the intention of only using the 1st 2. If McAuliffe is there at our 3rd, do we take him?
Depending on whose left on the board, yeah. I was assuming the talk is concerning our first or second pick as it is public knowledge we are only using the two (perhaps that's all we can afford within the cap?)

Hopefully Oooze says to Clarke, I definitely do not want a skinny half back flanker Matt, gimme something with a bit of size, speed, kicking skills & decision making please.

I would place his kicking in the elite category, the extra 10 metre range can create huge headaches for any opposition attempting to man-up from the kick outs, think back to Dustin Fletcher and the raking kicks which landed on the wing - Arie has that ability even though his one on one credentials are still a work in progress. The comparisons with Balta are also a little misguided, whilst Balta always had the range, his accuracy sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, Schoenmaker is also an accurate kick and that can be put to good use at AFL level. If you look at a player like Wanganeen-Milera, his junior footy was largely uncontested too but that hasn't affected his output at AFL level. Schoenmaker's intercept numbers are fine so he's reading the play well enough and seems to possess good anticipation. The contested stuff can be worked on, obviously no guarantees in life but it's more probable you get an AFL career in this instance than someone like ZZ who still hasn't perfected the art of kicking.
I agree, surely a professional team of coaches can develop a 194cm player with excellent kicking skills. I see he played on the wing for the strong Allies team so they obviously saw what benefits he can provide. At pick 35 we can’t expect perfection but Schoenmaker does have a lot going for him.

It looks likely we will be in a position to nab one of Murphy or Schoenmaker, its a shame we don't need KPD or HB.

Hope so Teets but I think we’re a good chance to pick at least one of Jiath, Lual, Roberts, Freijah and co. Or another small forward. That’s Clarke’s playground.

Shoeys boot when kicking out of full back and his potential to snag a few goals from long range (like Shorty), make him a weapon in todays game of zones etc

We are all going through these names but we all know Clarke will call out someone none of us have mentioned.

Weirdly enough, various commentators in the media do say we need a KPD. I think that’s one area we’ve got covered.
Down back we do but forward it’s Lynch with maybe 2 seasons left, Kositschke who’ll be a workhorse at best and the untried Bauer. I’d be happy with a Shoenmaker.

George Stevens - Likely
Archer Reid - Possibility
Logan Morris - Unlikely
Luamon Leal - Chance
Kane McAuliffe - Possibility
Zane Zakostelsky - Possibility
Cooper Simpson - Unlikely
Arie Schoenmaker - A Chance
Joel Freijah - Unlikely
Sam Van Rooyen - Rookie Draft Hopeful
Archie Roberts - Unlikely
Ollie Murphy - Unlikely

who knows what can happen, but this is what I’m hearing.

High chance.

There was an article a few weeks ago that mentioned that other clubs consider us a bit non consensus at Draft time. Bit alternative. Off Broadway. Weirdos ! :ROFLMAO:

My concern with Schoenmaker is it seems he is just a very tall outside player. In the vision I have seen he doesnt play anywhere like his size suggest he should. Zero contested work.
Big Jumbo Cale Morton energy. Pass.

All Australian, performed at the elite level, mobile, scope for improvement, plays at either end, kicks well.

Murphy an absolute no-brainer if he is on the board. Everyone else has major question marks.
