2023 Draft Thread.

Mitts Morris top of the list. Not worried about his height. A couple of cms isn't a deal breaker (just look at Brody Mihocek). Especially how well he reads the flight of the ball, one grabs it and most importantly has huge core strength to protect the drop zone. At worst if he doesn't make it forward reckon he'd be a ripper intercept defender.

Bigger (only) question mark is his agility. But if he had that he'd be gone first round.
I reckon agility is pretty key though for a player that height. Mihocek succeeds because he is smart and moves well.

you may be right about being a good 3rd/4th tall defender though if the forward line doesnt work out.

Am I the only one who can’t work out the Essendon trade with Geelong?
The cats were the only ones who could take Caddy so I would assume they took the deal knowing Essendon was going to take him. Surely if they were going to select him they would have said no? I can’t see how the extra pick would have changed their selection.
So the way I see it Essendon has handed over pick 31 to Geelong who weren’t going to pick Caddy anyway.
Have I missed something?
I'd say another team came for the Cats' pick and they gave Essendon the chance to beat the offer.

Murphy is the dream from here. Not fussed on Edwards. Do not want Reid.

Murphy and Simpson the absolute dream. Two of Murphy, Simpson, Morris, Freijah, Johnston would be good. Sanchez, Hastie and Lual also possibilities and would be okay with our second if we got one of the others first.

Weird that people don’t seem to like the drafted celebrations. I get it’s not a professional look but they’re kids, not professionals, and it’s a moment probably up there with winning the lottery. Is pure unbridled joy actually that hard to watch for some people?

Maybe too many people at the tables this year, that’s about it

I find it very manufactured that's why I don't like it. I was watching the 2009 draft as a comparison and each player had their parents there. When their names were called out they gave mum and dad a GENUINE hug and then went up.

Dont want another ruckman, as we have Nank, Ryan, Naismith, and Miller who can also ruck along with Colina and Hayes. That is enough for now.

Would not want the club to trade away a future second to jump a few spots. We'll have draft power next year with a first and 2 two second-rounders.

I want Copper Simpson who is quick and provides good run & carry, or a strong robust forward, ala Logan Morris.

Murphy, a tall, quick athletic defender, is another on our radar.

Wasn't there a knock on Murphy's professionalism hence why he has slid so far?

for me, one of Simpson, Shoenmaker, Murphy, Morris, Lual, Johnston in that order at 35. Then Ollington at 43. I'm happy.

I get and share the concerns on Shoenmaker's pace, but I don't think he's slow, there is so much else to like I'd be happy to grab him at 35.

No *smile* half back flankers Clarke!!! Bona fide midfielders or key position players.

We have a free hit, so I'm not fussed.
They usually hit gold with these PICKs Graham Bolton Astbury Cotchin.
I just hope its a footballer they pick not a kid that can jump high.

Surely you wouldn't want both Morris and Ollington?

That can be the only reason for me. If Geelong were going to pick him they would have, to me Essendon have paid pick 31 to find out if they were going to pick him or not when they could have found that out by just letting Geelong have their pick.

Unless you are correct Geelong has played Essendon on this one

Yeah Murphy would be good.

Not a fan of Freijah TBH. Would pass on him. Much rather someone like O'Leary with our second pick.

I wouldn't trade a great deal to get it and I think the price will be high.

Murphy is an All-Austrlaian defender, VIC Metro MVP for the carnival and a mobile 200 cm athlete who loves to take contested marks. And reads the play very well. I would've tAiken him with a pick in the teens in this draft. If we can jag him I'll do cartwheels. It’s first round talent. I don’t understand the slide.

Not beyond the realms to get two of Murphy/Edwards/Reid.

1st round talent but you wouldn't trade a future 3rd to get into that pick. It might just depend on whether West Coast think 1 of Sanchez or Edwards will fall to Pick 35.

If WC were open to it, I'd happily trade a 3rd to get the 1st pick of night 2 and a spot or 2 increase on our 2nd pick. Throw in 65 and 68 (or whatever numbers they are now) with it as we won't use them anyway and I think West Coast might need another pick in the draft (I think they need to take 5 anyway).

If we could get Murphy with our 1st pick and then 1 of Simpson, Johnston, Stevens, Morris, Hall, Delean or Charleson I reckon we'll have done really well.

I wouldn't be trading anything better than a F3rd by the way. The F1 and F2's are off the table.

I don't think we can get Lual with our 2nd. He's a Dogs NGA I think and our pick is past 40, so they would match I'd imagine. Doesn't mean we shouldn't bid on him if we like him though.

Yeah I'd give it a crack. Prefer others plus HO

Simpson BCS

As long as we don't take Robert's or Reid I'm happy
Unfortunately I’ve got a feeling we’ll take Reid.
Don’t hate him, but question marks on his competitiveness and aggression.
And as others have noted, hard to bend down and pick the ball up when you’re 203cm.
