2023 Draft Thread.

Check out Reece Torrent and Zane Zakostelsky.

We've got history with WA prospects and late picks, reckon our WA scouts are all over Reece Torrent. His kicking reminds me of Baker.

This points system is a complete farce. How can there be 29 1st round picks in an 18 team competition? If teams are matching a bid they should be forced to use a pick in the same round as the bid. If they don't have one, then we have live pick trading. Trade for one., or miss out on the player. This using junk picks because someone allocated some points to it is like trading 6 of your bottom paid players for 1 superstar because their salary is the same and calling it a fair trade. What a joke.

Zane Zakostelsky, went from a first round bolter to I'm not sure where he goes. Would not go near him with Murphy and Edwards on the board.

I must say i would not be too unhappy to end up with this kid (looking at his highlights)
He has a lot of traits going for him with his athleticism , height , build and to make things even more interesting is he is a late birthday and yet to turn 18 this kid could easily become a 200cm 100kgs athletic freak.

Height: 196cm

Weight: 89kg

D.O.B: 14-12-2005

Can’t kick, no footy smarts, avoid.

Murphy is 85% the athlete and double the player ball in hand.

Reece Torrent - we've downloaded all available data on him and even watched bootleg footage to make the best decision

list experts - if we take 2 kids as expected in this draft how many list spots would we have left? was it one spot for someone to train over the summer ?

What about rookie spots? Do we have much room there?

A few names Leysy likes, that are still around.

Mitts Morris top of the list. Not worried about his height. A couple of cms isn't a deal breaker (just look at Brody Mihocek). Especially how well he reads the flight of the ball, one grabs it and most importantly has huge core strength to protect the drop zone. At worst if he doesn't make it forward reckon he'd be a ripper intercept defender.

Bigger (only) question mark is his agility. But if he had that he'd be gone first round.

Others keen on are:

Tarkyn O'Leary
Cooper Simpson
Mitch Edwards
Koen Sanchez

Interested in draft watchers view on those.
I agree re: Morris. Exactly what we need right now. Plus at 18 he most likely has some growth in him.

Edwards wont get past West Coast. And if they do overlook him I think Sanchez would the one they take.

You’d think Edwards would go to WCE. And if not, Carlton look likely.

Flipped on SEN1116 for the first time in ages this morning. Boy, torrent of criticism from callers and texters re the amateurish nature of last night. I’m with them. Thought it was embarrassing. Looked like one big high school *smile* up. Blokes taking their shirts off, draftees stupid mates pulling silly faces in the background during interviews, lots of infantile screaming and yelling, looked like it was being held in a pub, amateurish tv coverage especially the interviews, guys presenting the jumpers to the draftees looked like they’d just got out of bed eg Michael Tuck. Gilbee in a hoodie etc etc. AFL couldn’t keep track of the trades and let viewers know where clubs stood in the draft order. And on and on and on….

The draft has always been an amateurish affair but amazingly, it’s getting worse. Looked like one big junior bogan *smile* up. Terrible look last night I thought.

Reckon Morris goes to the pies before our pick.

I didn’t think Curtin and his family were all that excited about being selected by the Crows. They looked a bit surprised-flat. Tanner Bruhn vibes.

Yeah, I reckon each draftee is told to hug everyone around them to try and elicit some on screen emotion and the zoom visions where the draftees mates jump all over them is just cringey.

Certainly was bogan central last night.

AFL needs to lift the professionalism.

Yeah I'd like Murphy at our pick too. I reckon the Saints 2 picks in front of us are the biggest risk to take them.

Would you trade up to get him? Something like 30 and 40, for 35, 43 and a F3?
