2023 Draft Thread.

What it really shows is that we are getting nothing from our academy zone. Either we have been stitched up or we are not managing it well. Other clubs are manipulating these zones by moving families into the location. Nobody wants to live in Shepparton.... Plus our father sons are drawing blanks.
The Victorian academies are now only after pick 40 that can be matched. So no point even having an academy.

Didn't some rule change or technicality deny us access to Jye Simpkin? We were shafted somehow but can't remember how. They did a reverse Quaynor on us.

Harsh! Shepps booming

Suns 4 gun players for free.
North 5 first rounders, 2 charity, on top of Wardlaw and the Cheezel.

What a farce.

I think the academy rules are different for us compared to Gold Coast?
We are only indigenous or international kids.

Both Simpkin and Ratagelea were both in our academy zone, but I think they were both drafted the year before the academies were officially available to clubs to draft from.

Ultra competitive ruck with a very strong ground ball game, big upside with his athletic specs and rapidly improving intercept game. Perfect selection and could feasibly be the best ruck of the crop.
Personal view is we need a developing key forward more than a ruck.
Maybe we should try for both and go harder for mids next year when our draft hand is better

God no if we get another half back I’ll spew
who knows. Maybe Yze will be different to Dimma. We'll draft a whole bunch of HBFers and turn em all into HFFs and Forward pockets, ala Castagna.
Which would be different to drafting practically anyone and turning them into a HBF under Dimma.

Feel like Melbourne blew it, could have taken Caddy and Darcy Wilson and still got what they were after.

Ballsy call second guessing Jason Taylor. Reckon he's the leading List Mgr/recruiter in the game now.

Saying that, the Windsor selection isn't one Leysy would make.

Koltyn Tholstrup is more than warranted though.

A few names Leysy likes, that are still around.

Mitts Morris top of the list. Not worried about his height. A couple of cms isn't a deal breaker (just look at Brody Mihocek). Especially how well he reads the flight of the ball, one grabs it and most importantly has huge core strength to protect the drop zone. At worst if he doesn't make it forward reckon he'd be a ripper intercept defender.

Bigger (only) question mark is his agility. But if he had that he'd be gone first round.

Others keen on are:

Tarkyn O'Leary
Cooper Simpson
Mitch Edwards
Koen Sanchez

Interested in draft watchers view on those.

Mitch Edwards would be my pick from here, great value selection.
Would be great but thinking there is still 2-3 clubs ahead of Richmond that could take another ruckman
Also Clarke mentioned in the gettable show about kpf being a list need

Maybe Reid/Morris could be in calculation

You also forget he is a West Australian and looks like Tim English

Edwards & Morris would be a very good result.

Welfare F.C had picks 19, 21&22 and have taken the maximum amount of time for each selection. FMD.
They took max time for pick 2, 3 and 4! Not a lot of alternative scenarios you idiots. Maybe have a think prior to draft night? If it was another club I might have given them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were getting creative and canvassing calls for possible trades, but its North. Joke of a club.

So we are now pick 35

Who are our options?

I know Archer Reid and don't mind that option unless he's taken earlier.

But from the junior watchers who else is in the frame that we should be looking at?

There was some talk that we were looking at Koen Sanchez, but think the Eagles will nab him first.

In all honesty would on earth would we even bother? If we did get a top end talent kid we can't even match till after pick 40 & another Club gets the benefits. With the cost cap, we should be putting the $$$ into other area's
