2021 Draft Thread

You gotta love Draft time. We’re either moving up from pick 15 or we’re moving back into the late teens/early 20’s. :ROFLMAO:

Gibcus will fill a key position for 12 years plus,so really it would be a no brainer to take him,,plus with his marking ability and pace he might be able to go forward .
I wish i had a dollar every time I've Heard he will be a '10 year player'
Let him be a 10 day player first.

We move out 15.
And want to trade into 19. Brisbane. Who have a future first to offload as they have F/S Ashcroft coming next year. This is the Sonsie or JVR pick, before Hawks / Freo respectively.

sounds plausible. Lions are right into JVR apparently, and 15 will do it and 19 prob wont.

if we want The Sonz, and they want JVR, this could be it

you'de want big Kahunas being the bloke on the phone tonight and you'de wanna steer clear of the coffee machine

its pretty hard to see a scenario under which we are discontent tonight.

we'd have to grab Knevitt at 7 and Sinn at 15?

I would love Gibcus and JVR (13 will do it) in the bag tonight (thats 3.9 metres of man), then work the trade in the pub to grab Sonsie and another mid Thursday,

and go mid-crazy in 2022
Dont think we would want both Gibcus and JVR. With Balta in the bag, we would be overloaded with elite key defenders and be hoping one turns into a forward.

Think we would split it to one mid and one tall.
And then trade to hope to pick up another superstar

So we heist it. Lions wont trade until JVR is off the table.
Sweet. Pick 15 we nab JVR.
Then trade into their 19 and grab Sonsie.

In this scenario who do we pick with our first - a mid or Gibcus?

me? I'd go Gibcus. Mids grow on trees, athletic CHB's are like pink diamonds

Balta-Gibcus-JVR

Rioli - Vlastuin - Stack

is a dynastical back 6 for the next 10 years, assuming Geelong dont burn Love Machines house down before he's 37

Dunno. Moving out to pick 20 makes it less likely we’ll take The Sonz I reckon. That would mean he’d be a big slider for that to happen. If he’s not already gone before 17, it still leaves Sydney and Melbourne to take him.

He could very well be sliding and we know it, but reckon moving out it’s the likes of Butler, Brown, maybe Howes if GWS don’t take him, that’s in play.

We’ve spoken to Brown at least twice I believe.

Im still not convinced Gibcus will be there at our pick,The GC would be mad to take Andrew at there selection.

Nah. He's the right call ILO. Gibcus is a talent but Big Mac has him covered skills wise and below his knees.

At worst Big Mac will end up an exceptional rebounding key back, which is what Gibus is likely to be - hence taken higher.

Hope am wrong and he is available to us. He's a total lock for pick 5 though.

One thing that seems very likely.

We aren't going to end up with the selections we're walking into the draft with.

Apparently West Coast want Chesser with their first. Surely they trade back then as no-one is talking about him at Pick 12 aside from them.

Could be if Hobbs is still on the board, maybe we trade with them rather than the Bombers.

Pick 10 (12) ad 67 for Picks 15 (17) and 28

They would still get Chesser at 15 (17) you would think.

Its why I think we could trade for Norths 2nd. All the drafts have them taking Motlop so sounds like there is good intel out there, he will still be there at 26, so 20 and 47 for 26 and 27 would work.

Cant wait for Brad Johnson to pretend like he knows something about each player while we wait 5mins for the next pick. I’ll be watching the AFL live stream if he is on the Fox coverage again this year

I know nothing about the crop other than what I've read here but Gibcus sounds like a great pick.

Sure, taking a KPD is not a sexy top-10 selection but look to the future. Some poor bloke is going to have to play on the Winklevoss twins at the Saints and Suns for the next ten years.

Agree. To get the Sonz I feel we need to move up the draft order. Gut feel says he is off the table by Pick 17. Gut feel says the Bombers will pull the trigger at 13.

All the word around Sonz is he slides, not rises. Very much doubt we will move up to get him. Reckon we would only to that for Hobbs.

This is exactly why it's hard to get too caught up pre draft in all the Phantoms for mine. The swathes of intel these clubs have would be kept very close to their chest. There's always surprises.
Exactly. That’s why I reckon Phantoms are a waste of time too.

are you saying we've all completely wasted the last 2 months of our lives?

I wish I'd known this in September, I would have re-read 'Belief' and 'Faith. Football and Family'

Been fortunate enough to go to a couple of pre draft club presentations with Clarke/Hartley etc. with a few others here.
The databases these guys hold is absolutely ridiculous and go back years. Not to mention the number of player interviews & cross referencing of character that takes place. An often overlooked but crucial aspect in recruiting.
Most of us here know very little by comparison.
