2021 Draft Thread

That’s harsh Leysy. Trawling through old posts.

FWIW I was commenting on the so called draft experts (present company excluded) who are predicting this could happen.

Smoking Aces still thinks Hobbs ends up within the top 10.

Yeah was below the belt. Just stirring mate.

I reckon if we take Gibcus and then Hobbs slides there’s a fair chance we’ll try and trade 15(17) up to get him. For example we might offer Essendon that and one of our 2nd rounders for their 51 (which will come in a fair bit with all the dogs picks in the 40’s). Walking away with Gibcus and Hobbs would be a sensational result.
That would be awesome.
I’m finding it hard to split the 2 at our 1st pick.
If we were to end up with both ……. :banana

All good mate. Nothing like a bit of banter.

Who are you taking between Gibcus and Hobbs?

Gibcus by a nose. Really surprised he looks like getting through. Been top 5 all year.

His anticipation, athleticism and huge leap are massive traits. Chatting to a learned junior watcher tonight he's played a lot forward as a junior, a move forward ala Naughton not out of the question. Him and Balta could be massive swingmen that change the game over the next 10 years.

Actually reckon we might take Hobbs ahead of him though. Which is fine. He fills a glaring need and exactly the type we love.

Has Gibcus played forward as a junior?
If he can transform into a forward at AFL level then that’s a game changer.

The Gibcus/Balta duo is very intriguing.

A lot of differing opinions on nearly every player. But think we are all in agreeance Wanganeen-Milera is pretty overrated?

Yes. It’s only been since joining the Rebel squad lthat he’s been playing down back. And even then, he’s gone forward a number of times the last couple of years. He played CHF and FF in the BFL and also with St Pats. But he has a preference for playing down back. Posted this 10 or 12 weeks ago.

Where did you get those numbers? Cotch missed the combine but these are his TAC testing numbers, it is quite feasible he ran quicker times in unofficial testing though, you can often see improvement if a kid has a growth spurt over the course of the year.
Didn't Cotchin and another spend the previous summer with the Tigers? I have the impression we had tested him when he was with us, which is why we had no concerns about him when he missed the combine testing.

A deal to move up with our second pick isn’t out of the question with Dildo-ro. Depends on how much he rates Goater, Howes, Chesser and co v Hobbs, Johnson, Butler, Milera. I know they like Goater but enough ?

If we did move into their pick, then Gibcus first with Hobbs, Johnson, Butler, Sinn in sight for the second. (Hopefully not Milera.)

The Old Inside Footy Draft Edition was always a good reference.

Not anymore sadly.
Brett Anderson used to pull that together. Now working for a club (Port Adel?) in recruiting.

Emma Quayle another journo that was a gun on the draft also in recruiting with GWS.

Always had time for a chat did Emma and was way too nice to hang out with the Ambulance chasers in the media center.

He played forward in the Vic M v Vic C trial game at Werribee and did ok (watch Hobbs highlights - Gibcus takes a great mark and handballs to Hobbs who snaps a goal).

He was moved back onto Darcy mid-way through the game as he was cutting loose. Took Darcy out of the game
