2021 Draft Thread

Hobbs is an AFL countdown on the app now.

Twomey asked him who he'd heard he might go to, he said something like "possibly interstate and " (then added a smirk to his face) "and I could stay in Victoria for a club I really really like"

Sounds like it could be Freo or Richmond.

Twomeys's just stated that the Giants are willing to trade out 13 for either a future 1st or a 2nd and a future 2nd. Do we do it?

Yes, trade pick 28 and a future 2nd tied to us (we also have Norths's 2nd next year). So, still have a 1st and an early 2nd rounder next year.

If we could get 13 and keep 15 - it potentially could be an era defining haul for us. Imagine Hobbs, Erasmus, Sonsie... or Johnson, Gibcus and Sinn...

Sounds like the Giants would trade back if the following scenario occurred.

They take Callaghan with Pick 4 (seeming more and more likely) and the quality talls (Andrew and Gibcus) are both gone along with Rachele also gone. They know they want talls or small forwards with their 2nd so they are willing to trade back to get those list needs filled.

I would think its likely that all 3 of those players will be gone by 13 (15) so I'd say they will be open to trading back.

I think if we got that done, it would more likely be Hobbs / Johnson, Sinn and Sonsie with those 3 picks.

If that's true - it sounds tailor made for our draft hands this year and next. We have multiple 2nd rounders in both years. I say yes - no hesitation. Pick 28 this year and North's second rounder next year. Especially since we have identified our top 14 targets (according to another poster). We could land 3 of them!

Yep. Reckon it will either take our first or both our seconds for 2022. Would we do either of those?

Leysy probably would. We can then trade one (or two) of our 2021 second rounders into 2022 with another club.

We could do that with the 2nds and then trade one of our 20's picks out to someone like Essendon or Collingwood (who might trade back into the draft).

If we were trading next years 2nds, I wonder if we get something back from the Giants too, maybe their 3rd next year. Would get us back into a position where we had a pick in each of the 1st 3 rounds next year.

That just makes no sense at all for GWS to do that !

2nd this year gets consumed by a bid on fahey and a 2nd net year would be 30+
Just crap and getting people talking

We give them our future 2nd and 3rd for 13 with the agreement for them to transfer their future 3rd for pick 28 after the Fahey bid has been met

I would just give them our future 1st for the 13.

Considering Dermie has us winning the premiership that pick will be 18 and we have Norf's 19 already.

I wondered with Fahey whether they are now anticipating a bid before 15 (as their 2nd pick will become). Seems to be rated top 20 by most, so there could be a team with a pick just before their one (eg Essendon) who could bid. Splitting the pick would help alleviate this.

If they wanted both our 2022 seconds I would certainly do that and then, as Poshman says, try to get a future 2nd for one of 26-28.

Ultimately GWS and GC are always great clubs to do deals with as high picks just aren’t as valuable to them as they are to other clubs.

Don’t GWS want to trade Callaghan and Owens together as they’re close mates? If that’s the case. Hard to see them parting with 13
