Don't agee. Addiction is a disease which can be treated successfully well before the addict reaches rock bottom. The thing about Ben is that he knows he has a problem. And he attempted to deal with it. But to go to the US and then to return to the Eagles and to his life in Perth, was always fraught with danger.

Frankly it is clear that his parents relinquished control a long time ago. Not blaming them but they lack the ability to exercise any control now. He needs to move and we have the abilty to provide the support that the Eagles could not. Weightman, Johnson, JON, Richo, Bowden, Lids, Mcguane, Dan Connors.. these with the rest of the team are good kids who are more than capable of 'teaming up' to do the job which is exactly what is needed.

The most important thing is this. If Ben leaves the game in these circumstances, his chances of recovering control over his own life and dealing with his guilt and recrimination while looking at 4 walls in Perth or wherever, are zip...

On the other hand with some considerable effort the Tigers can do him a world of good.
i disagree cousins did what would allow him to continue playing footy he doesnt think he has a problem.as for his parents well they can only try but as with nearly all addicts there is not a thing they can do unless the addict is willing to admit he has a problem and let them help him. if you think parents have some sort of control over an addict or anybody you are gravely mistaken, this is what tears most families apart because parents have no say.

as for your hitting rock bottom comment you may be right some may learn to control their addiction before rock bottom most dont. in fact few addicts ever overcome their addictions.

as for the tigers doing him some good well i wont go there for fear of being banned all i will so is what a bloody stupid comment.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

The AFL drug policy is nothing more than a Joke.

If they were serious, they would adapt a zero drug policy. One positive and its over.

Clubs have educated all players. They have been warned.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

A wonder he never kicked in the wrong direction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

He won't have a choice tannerz. The AFL will de-register him. A sad end to a brilliant career.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

It's sad that he has an addiction that he can't shake. It makes you wonder how he has never tested positive?

Marion Jones never tested positive either!

Fingernail or Hair follicle testing is the only method that can't be masked so I've been told.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Adolfso will look like a right pratt, with his softly softly approach on drugs.

But does his block on gambling, one is legal the other is not.

Suggest he gets his priorities sorted out first.

Don't think he will have that option, imo the AFL will de-register him. Never to play in the league again.

Careful - internal testing shall only be carried out by a Gyno!!

You may think he is not worth the effort and that we are not in it to engage in the rehab of people who muck up else where. Coming off a career like his to what his life will be without football, will cause him all sorts of difficulty and negatively impact any turnaround.

There is an upside from a number of points of view and I simply propose that we look at it.

If the possibility exists for someone to take him in the PSD, I'll bet you a slab of Vics finest that someone will.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

SEN were talking to someone in the states in regards to the amount of players in the NFL or whatever it is saying that it is almost a daily occurance that players get caught with illegal substances.

Maybe the american rehab centre was not the best place for Cuz to go... maybe learned a few more things than he would have before...

They will probably de-register him for 2008,he may be able to play after that with another club but unlikely any club would take the risk.

I think the AFL spotlight is the last thing Ben needs at this stage momentai and I'm sure his family are far more concerned about his long term welfare than him having a football future.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Dont blame the AFL drugs policy - its not the problem. It will help those who want to be helped.
Cousins has continually believed he is above the law, hung out with the wrong people and avoided being brought to task over any wrongdoings. Others are to blame for this, not Ben.
But - he's refused to admit to his problems and had others do this for him. He shows no remorse, only a smugness that indicates he's bulletproof.
He has the means, family support and and entire club infrastructure around him to assist with his problems if he wanted to. He appears not to have utilised these.
I feel sorry for adicts and others with problems without any support network - I do not feel sorry for Ben.
Keep him away from RFC.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Hmm,I'm not so sure the AFL will deregester Benny Boy.

On what legal basis could they do it?

He's never tested positive to the AFL sanctioned drug tests. All he's been done for is refusing to give a blood sample and a possession of Valium.

On behalf of the RFC I'd like to be the first to extend a warm welcome to Benny 'fiddy cent 'Cousins.
