Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]
Fair comment, Claw.
Everything that we see from Cousins indicates that he doesn't really believe he has a problem, other than than others are giving him a hard time because they can't see his point of view. He is a very long way away from being healthy. WC played him this year because they wanted to win another flag. The message they sent to Cousins was that they didn't really disapprove of his behaviour and that he was OK as long as he kept out of the public eye.
As you say, he still has a long way to go before he hits rock bottom.
As a society, we are letting our kids down with our double standards. The attitude of WC and the AFL mirror this. Neither has been prepared to make a stand for what they say they think is right. It isn't surprising that our youth is confused.
the claw said:firstly im not surprised. you dont go away for 10 or 12 weeks and become suddenly over your addiction.in fact you never get over your addiction. i am surprised at people being shocked that something like this has happened.
only one person can decide weather they are going to make a serious effort to beat their addiction and thats the person who is addicted. once an addict decides to help himself in most cases they relapse continually into old habits. it seems the few who do beat serious drug addiction have to hit rock bottom this hasnt happened in cousins case and is unlikely.
i also believe cousins doesnt need help from his employers. he has to help himself he has to be willing to be guided by his family no one else.
imo wce by allowing him to play football this yr have done more harm than good it gave cousins the idea he can ply and do drugs i know i havent said that very well i hope people get the gist of what im saying. for ben to get better he needs to bottom out thats a harsh call but its a fact .people who make excuses for him and bail him out of trouble are killing him with kindness. iknow this because i have seen drugs tear people apart who were dear to me.
its high time as a society we adopted a zero tolerance to drugs in our society before the whole fabric of society is torn apart if it hasnt been already.
