Cousins had 14 drug tests and passed them all, so he hadn't taken any drugs in the 48 hours previous to the drug tests, which says a lot more about Ben Cousins drug addiction, or lack of a drug addiction, than it says about the AFLs drug testing policies.

So what do you call a bloke who can go more than 48 hours without taking drugs?? Not a drug addict in my language.

The AFL and West Coast have chosen to label him an addict so they can medicalise the problem and book him into rehab, rather than the alternative, which was to call him a cheat and a man of weak character who was unable to control his impulses to take illegal drugs.

You reckon Terry is a spin doctor, he has got nothing on the AFL and West Coast on this issue!

The weakness in your argument IMO, Linus, is that it assumes that there are no masking agents involved. I believe that there may be (although not necessarily in only Cousin's case) but I have no evidence to that effect ATM.

But it's an interesting take. And maybe you're right on the money.

If anybody has any information they'd like to share on masking agents I'd be grateful if they'd PM me. Or post if the material is within the guidelines.

I'm doing some research on the matter. Obviously, this is a general question and does not pertain directly to Ben Cousins.

Hasn't he admitted to using ice?
I've never seen an admission published, Disco.

Never heard of a masking agent for coke or ice. Most of the masking agents commonly referred to are used to mask steroids and many of these are diuretics, designed to increase urine volume and therefore dilute any banned substance. Same thing Warnie got done for, the diuretic isn't going to make you play sport any better but what it hides very well could.

But meth. amphetamine (speed, ice and also present in E's) is also a diuretic and therefore could be performance enhancing on 2 counts.

I only have a small knowledge of the drug testing process, but would 99% believe WADA that if they said Cousins was clean when he was tested, then he had not taken coke and definately not speed in hours or even days preceding the test.

Most people who take drugs are looking for a high that Cousins probably gets every time he runs out on to the football field. To me Ben Cousins' drug use doesn't make him an addict, just a greedy d!ck head.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Thanks for the diuretic scoop, Linus.

Where there's a drug there's a masking agent, I reckon Linus. :hihi Or at least a practice. I mean we've heard stories of the players getting tipped off or just going into hiding, I mean accidentally uncontactable.

The coke thing is interesting. We know that in the NFL, players use coke for an aggression edge.

So, if the Ameddicans are cheating with a drug you can guarantee that there is a masking agent or maybe a practice.

Meth would have to be at least as good for aggression you'd reckon but coke seems (from my limited research) to be preferred. Is one easier to mask than the other? Or quicker to clear from the body? The Ameddicans would lead the world in this sort of thing- hiding drugs not finding them.

Re: Cousins injured!

Only a slight strain mmmmmmmmmmmm

Maybe just a ruse from the Coasters to get another 2 weeks grace and avoid all of the scuttlebutt and conjecture this week.

I for one and getting really sick and tired of all the BS, deflecting, and cover ups from AFL clubs, WCE, Collingwood and Carlton.

And if i hear one more pathetic erffort of a player reading from a prepared statement by someone else stating they are sorry for thre embarrassment theyve caused i'll SPEW UP.

:p

While walking the dog today, I found this on the ground. Not sure if its real, but it does sound genuine.

****CONFIDENTIAL - RFC OFFICIALS ONLY****

****2nd DRAFT - RAY HALL STATEMENT****

I thank you all for coming to this press conference today. I will be reading from a prepared statement and will not be answering many questions.

I know for some years there have been rumours about me and my activites running around the AFL. Recent events however have meant that it is now appropriate that I address these matters with you. I can now confirm the rumours, and after extensive counselling and support, I can acknowledge I am a dud. I have tried to hide this condition for some years, and this has meant that my club and team mates have not been truly aware of my dud condition, so I wish to take this opportunity to apologise to them for misleading them and making them believe I was a footballer.

I wish to thank my mentor David Bourke and my counsellor Mr. Diggler who have both worked with me in recent years to help me admit my condition and come to terms to living life as a dud. Given there is no cure yet, I will also be stepping down from my position within the Richmond Football Club, and will be taking up my new passion of flower arranging.

Thank you all.

Re: Cousins injured!

Poor Justin Charles was dragged thru the mud when he returned a positive test to drugs, its a disgrace how the AFL refuse to take action and hide scum like Cousins and his team mate who has also tested positive.

Should be banned for life. Great role model for kids isn't it ?

Re: Cousins injured!

Well, while we have the almighty $ driving the AFL decisions guess we can't expect anything better.

This is the face of footy today.

Has Cousins actually tested positive? My understanding is that he has been tested 14 times over his career, but has never been caught.

At least his hamstrings have a sense of justice. I don't know how he could come straight back in any way. He looks very fit, but he can't be match fit.

he shouldn`t have been running at top speed before he was ready.

seriously though, what did they expect ,he hasn`t trained or played at the top level for 12 or 13 weeks.
i know he has been training by himself but that is nothing compared to training with an afl club.
i was thinking he was going to get injured if he played this week anyway because they are rushing him back to quickly.
