Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

the problem has been going on a lot longer than 06...this is when the penny dropped because unfortunately for Couzy's sake he started to stuff up....couzy and kerr were well known around the traps. ;)...

how many flights were undertaken whilst carrying drugs from melb to perth....?

will it come out that some played while under the effects of the old nose candy?

on another note, what was Benny running from last pre-season that fateful night do you think?
The Weagles admin are so full of it.
I find it impossible to believe they knew nothing of Cousins problems until recently.
Needless to say I agree ToO.

There's so much news on this front it's hard to keep up with it all.But I think one of the pertinent questions that should be asked(if it already hasn't)-when did Woosha hear the Kerr police tapes.he said on the show he'd heard them, and they are prettty damning.Once he's heard those tapes there's no way he can argue "well the AFL don't release tests and I asked said player,so how would i know, what else could I do?"

If it was a number of years ago then the club has been truly negligent.Kerr was subsequently in all sorts of misdeamenours that would show he was still dabbling-notably the valium pescription forgery.Even up till recently when he was jumping wildly on taxi's and involved in punch ons (with his dads aid no less, bizzare). And the club did nothing(except fine Kerr $5000.)

I agree with both of you.

Evo's questions on the tapes is spot on. To me that is enough for the Club to move, they know that Kerr is talking of "not knowing where he was" how much he struggled the day before, that Cousins had a bag of horse chaff (that is mentioned on the James Harvey call. Who BTW is a free agent looking to sign with a new club in the NBL, good luck, well be interested to see how that pans out). Right there they could have done something.

Another couple of angles.

Cousins girlfriend and family. Did they have prior knowledge. Had they heard the rumours, had they questioned him?

His financial people, it is rumoured that had a $3,000 a week habit. Surely they could have seen it from bank statements, spending patterns things of that nature. Large withdrawals. I know of at least three AFL players who have all there financial documents sent to advisers/accountants and are reviewed every six weeks in a one on one meeting. One was forced this way by the club. Good on them for being proactive.

The disturbing part for me is that the Eagles are happy for the players to ruin themselves trying to win a flag and then just dump then like trash once there footballing life is over. They were happy to do nothing for so long, clearly they only consider there players as pieces of flesh and they could not give a stuff about player welfare.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

For me a lot of this comes down to good governance.
I find it hard to believe that Worsfold and his assistant coaches had no inkling of what players were up too. A good coach/mentor/teacher etc should be able to read the signs when someone in their charge is undergoing stress, unusual behaviour, not performing etc. If you don't know your charges well enough to read the signs then you shouldn't be in the job.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

I was also amazed to see both Judge and Jacovich on TV last night blaming the "Eastern States media" for hyping this whole mess up and accusing them of envy of the Eagles' successes.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

and Worsfold has a degree in pharmacy so he'd be right up with it wouldnt he?

Yes,it's amazing isn't it.Even faced with overwhelming evidence(some even admitted to by the coach) it's all still a conspiracy to persecute the poor Eagles.

It's a whole culture developed around denial, subtifuge, playing the victim laced with a ruthlessness to do whatever it takes to win a flag,no matter the costs.

Those tapes throw up an interesting thought.Kerr and Cousins are implicated by the tapes, but there's a third guy, less implicated Edwards.

Kerr and Cousins go onto demonstrate subsequently a number of times it's an ongoing problem for them. But because they are top line players the club looks away, they get to play every week all the way to the granny.

Meanwhile Edwards(a less talented player) is the guy who gets delisted.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

More. ;D

Cousins was allegedly on 3k$ worth /week. :shakehead but still says he doesn't have a problem. ::)

Meanwhile Nissy says no drugs at the Eagles, move along nothing to see here. ;D
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He said an inquiry into alleged drug use by Eagles players was not necessary.

"I don't know what more we can do,
" Nisbett said. "We've had all the necessary seminars, lectures, workshops and counselling that we can have. It's at saturation point.

"What's gone on, as we have said many times, is in the past and we have addressed these issues in the best way we think we can."

He declared Eagles players drug-free, adding: "The players are now well aware of what is required of them to move forward into the new season. All of our players are now in a position to move forward without any further accusations."

That is the most staggering statement of the entire week.

No one can claim that in the current climate.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Crikey, the drug problems are "in the past". They have a strange sense of 'history' over there in the west.

On top of Edwards Gardiner must also have been expendable. I always thought Edwads was a tad stiff to be delisted.

The whole of WA should be under the gun, any player that has the misfortune to actually make it to court is then sentenced to a hand shake by a starstruck judge - probably a guy the player is already on friendly terms with.

The girlfriend should not carry any blame whatsoever in the whole saga. Cousins is far in denial it is bordering on a poor made for 'weekly weepie' TV film script.

I just can't believe that he could say that with all the admissions and perhaps some not owning up too, ok they admit it and what does he think Wolla!
they all just stop like that, fair dinkum Nisbett get ur head out of ur arse.

Could be also because the WA media are part of the problem and go soft on the locals for reasons fanging from adulation or being ostrasized from the WA footy fraternity.

I recall a WA journalist and his paper copping it when an article appeared that was unfavourable to the Eagles. Can't quite remember the full details however.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

$3000/week...I call 'rubbish'
thats 10g, discounting a bulk buy discount
1.5g a day....not a chance he could perform at the level he did

I think the media like to pump up those sort of facts in an attempt to gobsmack the general public.

All of this further highlights the disparity in treatment the AFL meats out to those caught gambling compared to those taking drugs. One is legal, the other isn't. Surely the AFL have it arse about.

No don't place blame on the girlfriend, from all reports she blew the whistle on the whole saga. Well done she has done the right thing. I was wondering if they had already had there suscpions and if they had raised them with Ben or if they were working behind the scenes to control him or if they altered the club as well. Further placing the club to blame becuase they didn't action any information the family had supplied.

She had been with him for 8 years, she could see the changes in him. I admire her for this, it's probably what was needed to start getting him sorted out.

Spot on again evo. Who know's who Bender's been sharing his stash with?

I reckon his trade value would be minimal currently and that's probably being generous. The denial ain't helping any.

there's been some 'homework' done. Still want him at Tigerland? ;)
