I didn't think you were that gullible, SCOOP.

Of course Hardwick will praise Cousins in any way possible when he's "retiring".

Seems to me he was pushed, rumours around Hardwick wanted all the 30+ players gone last year and now he's achieved it.

I think he was cut but given the opportunity to retire given his standing in the game. He stated numerous times he wanted to play again and sounded adamant about it. Why the sudden turn around? A. There was no turn around.

In the end it doesn't really matter though.

Cuz doesn't strike me as someone who would go along with a charade. If he was pushed, wouldn't he just say it?

why tell him to go away last week & make sure thats what he wants for a week & run the risk of him changing his mind.

And that's the point where I draw my conclusion that they wanted Cuz to play on.

gotta love people trying to find some glimmers of proof of a knifing

all the leaks leading up to this indicated it was from the Cousins camp that this decision was made - IMO anyone who picked up anything else is looking for something to back up their own personal hope that he got stabbed

Hardly a charade, happens all the time in football.

Heard him state he will be happy with whatever decision the club comes to but dont quote me on that. I'm sure he's just happy he's got a 2nd chance and understands where the club is heading ie youth. Good time for him to go out with his doco and all and playing some decent footy not limping to the finish. Correct decision was made.

Certainly not clear cut that club didnt want him to play on, why tell him to go away last week & make sure thats what he wants for a week & run the risk of him changing his mind.
Be a prick of a move to then tell Cuz your chopped if he did.
Hardwick also bringing up the point that Cuz started last weeks talk by saying what was best for RFC in his eyes was for him to hang them up. Thats why he'll always be welcome through these doors.
Sorry but Dimma's not good enough a liar to go into that detail if not true.

Nicely said. We should put this issue to bed and move on.

Is he going to play out the season?

Hardwick has barely uttered a word about Cousins being in his plans for next year until today daisy.
There has been no talk of contract extensions until after this announcement. None.
It's all been about list management decisions, draft picks, let's see at the end of the year etc. etc.

I reckon Cousins has seen the writing on the wall late in the season and been happy to call it quits 'on his own terms'.
The club certainly haven't tried to twist his arm in convincing him to go around again.
Whatever has unfolded the correct decision by all has been made & the way it's played out suits all concerned.

Of course it was the club's decision. Cousins was publicly saying he wanted to play on almost to the end. Decision was made weeks ago but I am glad they have been able to organise it so that Cousins could play out the full season without too much (relative) focus on the situation.

Big loss the Cuz. Loved to have seen him run around with potentially a fully fit Chimp, Foley & Martin next season. At last a modicum of cut, run & intelligence.

People reckon Mal Brown was brought up & remembered a lot of his what 14 games with RFC. Wait til 20 years time when people look back on Cuz's 30.

& how good was his presser. Top shelf. Not many can speak & have everyone out of palm of your hand like Ben. The Cuz has that ability better than anyone leysy's heard. Only imagine what it is like to play on the same sporting team. Though Browny gave a small insight.

Good post. Cuz strikes me as the type of bloke who would realise that the club doesn't want him going on, and then would come forward and say he wants to retire, because he can see it's in the best interests of the club. If it was about him, he'd play on, but it's about the club and he understands that.

Its been a hell of a ride. Without knowing all the ins and outs, as most on here don't, I reckon the whole experience has been a good one for our club. Didn't start off great, with the way he came on board after we baiscally said we wouldn't pick him up, but I reckon since that day our club has handled everything involving Ben professionally for the first time in years. I reckon we have regained some of the respect that took 30 years to lose.

And Ben himself, with his infectious personality, and his obvious commitment out on the field, and his apparent joy of just being given another chance, has been embraced by the faithful.

I am sad to see him go, as he has been a champion footballer, and really hope that he can continue on with his recovery away from the spotlight. And I reckon as a club, we have only benefited from having him on board. I just hope the young guys can put into practive what he has shown them by the example he has set on the field.

Well done champ....I will be there in Round 22 to see you off, hopefully in style. :clap

Yep the club has handled the Cousins era impeccably.

Except for Dimma's slip of the tongue which creates doubt on who made the decision.l'm sure you will be happy now that Cuz is going Toohey's.
