Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Judd will captain West Coast next year and Cousins will be back playing for the club mid May, watch out for a determined feral West Coast in the coming weeks. My tip, back to back!

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

In spite of having 3 of the best 5 midfielders in the comp, if not the 3 best, they barely scraped home last year in the GF, in my opinion because their fwd line is well below par. Nose candy or not, cousins was a huge factor in that, both in sheer ability and on-field leadership. They won the flag due to their 3 midfield powerhouses, most clubs have 1, rapt and competitive with 2, a flag apparently for tha taking with 3, take one out and we'll see.
I'm talking purely in football terms, leaving any possible psychological fallout out of it.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Bryan Cousins has just appeared on Perth TV confirming that Ben has a substance abuse problem. The substance was not confirmed.

No, something about something being cheaper and better quality overseas, didn't quite catch it.

Yep he may have a substance problem but you may as well buy a three litre bottle of vodka for the flight. He can still drink!!!

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

The interview with John W tonight on the footy show would have to be one of better interviews ive seen on the show. I dont think anyone pulled any punches and John did respond with good faith. Great interview without going into Bens intimate problems but it did seem to me like it was drug related. I hope Ben comes back better than ever. He is too good of a player to fade into oblivion and by the sounds of it the club believes in the guy which even if it this opinion is a "smoker" is great for support for the guy in public. Great to see his dad out there giving his support as well.

Personally, yep he has problems, i hope he gets away and deals with them because as a elite football player, i like the way he goes about his profession on the field. Just hope he gets his act together off field now and he can return to his previous form.

Get your act together soon Ben, I for one, love to see elite players doing there thing on the field - ofcourse if it isnt against the tigers ;)

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

It's was a disgraceful interview mate, they new he had a problem and they did nothing. Maybe you should look into Cocaine and you will find that it has performance enhancing benefits.

Ice ruins people for good!

If you ask me they should lose their premiership!

So your saying that Ben Cousins took cocaine during a game are you????? Do you know how long the effects of cocaine lasts on a person? Get your facts right before posting such ridiculous comments mate. I dont condone drugs in football or in life at all but if you have the facts that he played under the influence of drugs please inform all of us of what games this did happen and how you knew about it. I would be very interested in knowing.

You cant perform on the day on such a drug in mentioning cocaine for a full game without inducing it at least two or three times as it doesnt last more that one or so hours mate. Just another one who goes off on a "tangent" without knowing the full facts. Please spare the ignorance in your post - yes he has had problems before but let him work it out without such naive opinions as yours.

And yes it was one of the most riviting interviews ive seen on the footy show. Good on JW for being supportive of the guy, He can't be looking over them 24/7 - thank god your not his coach mate.

I sure hope for Cousins sake and those around him that it isn't.

Well we don't know what Cousins's issues are.

So, suppose it were ice. Would there be any performance enhancement issues?

Worsfold has stated that Cousins had problems middle of last year. Was he using before games? Who knows? If they did know what did they do about it? If they don't know, why didn't they check?

They knew there was a problem. What did they do about it? Other that win a Premiership?

Cracker has been pushing this barrow for a while now and he's been right on the money.

Tip of the iceberg. Biggest footy story I can remember.

Please be careful what you post

This thread is very concerning from an administrator's point of view. The last thing we need is legal action.

Please don't post assumptions and allegations that certain substances have been used by particular players.  If you want to discuss the effects of a drug better to do it generically rather than tie in players' names, especially as nothing has been confirned and it's really only speculation at this point.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

I love that term “substance abuse.”

If I eat 3 Mars Bars a day, do I have a “substance abuse” problem ? What about if I use too much paint when I’m re-painting the house ? Again, do I have a “substance abuse” problem ?

I reckon every chick in the world has a “substance abuse” problem judging by the amount of toilet paper they use. Geez.

Because a lot of men (well the ones I know anyway) think it is OK to buy paper that is thinner than tissue paper, see through, and expect it to be OK.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

I feel for young Ben Cousins. The good news is that he has diagnosed himself - more good news is that his family is behind him.

The sad news is the inuendo - the media reporting - it magnifies his problem many fold - but - he got paid big money to be a public figure - he therefore has to abide by the consequences of being a public figure.

Experience tells me that once you diagnose yourself you are well on the way to doing something about - denial can and still is a killer.

For those of you who have never been adicted to any form of drug use please understand that reasoned thinking is the first casualty - as a user your mind becomes owned by the addiction.

I remember vividly the words of a very close friend who was going through re-hab with me - he said

"I know what it has done to me - it has taken away my wife, my kids, my home, my car, my job, it has taken away me from me - but right now all I want is another hit!"

The chinese have a wonderfully true saying - man takes a drink, drink takes a drink, drink takes the man. (Substitute any drug you want in there for the word drink)

February 1992 was the last time I imbibed - 15 years ago - there are three stages of recovery - kicking it, staying away from it and then living away from it. The first year is the toughest - draw on the love of your family and friends Ben - it has sure helped many other through.

Lastly - any form of drug addiction is a killer - during my first 12 months of rehab I went to 13 funerals - all suicides - good people lost to their drug of choice who could not live with it or live without it.........Good luck Benny..........RT

Why would you feel for him RT. Self inflicted despite a multitude of warnings etc etc. Little sympathy from me.

Leysy there's a couple of recreational drugs which increase users energy and attentiveness which would come under performance enhancing if used during a game I'd say.

Drugs such as cocaine and ice. Each of these drugs is banned and considered performance enhancing.

Cocaine has only a limited potential for physically enhancing performance. But for confidence, it's a boon. And the question of improved concentration is moot.

Amphetamine is clearly a performance enhancing drug.

Drugs like cannibis are performance detracting drugs. No benefit to the athlete. A hindrance.

The AFL is aware of what Benny's been using. I'm not. But the issue of performance enhancement may have to be considered.

And publicly.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

Yep. I reckon there's a lot more water to pass under the bridge with this whole Cousins affair.

And I'm sure there'll be heaps more stories etc. regarding the Eagles and illicit substances, and also other AFL clubs and players.

Re: Ben Cousins in trouble again

There was an article in the Oz yesterday or the day before that pretty much spelled out Cocaine was Benny's drug of choice.

Obviously he could used other substances from time to time but I find it fairly beleivable Benny could've used coke weekend warrior style for a fair period of time and gone undetected and without a significant detrimental effect to his playing and training ability.
