OK I'll keep this thread at the top of page 1. ;D

Although it is the off season and it has only been about 6 weeks since Cuz joined us everyone would have to agree that things "seem" to be going the way the club would like.

* massive publicity
* increased membership
* a positive effect on the younger playing group

If things continue to go this way for the rest of the season we will be where we haven't been for a very long time.

I admit I was against him coming initially, but I changed my mind very quickly the week before we picked him up.

So far I am very glad we did.

Think the club, the players and Ben himself have handled things pretty well since it was announced he was going to be a Tiger.

FWIW, ran into Kelvin Moore the other day. Had a chit chat about how he was travelling blah blah.... Asked him how Cuz had settled in and all the fanfare etc.

He said he was settling in real well, that the boys were really excited to have him, and that it had added some extra energy to the playing group and the club in general.

In other words, according to Kel, all pretty good at this stage.

Ben particularly has done fantastically well. He is clean, he is training and he is contributing.

Wayne is smart enough to include him and use him in the development of our midfield strategy. 4 boundary umpires will leave gaps all over the place and players who know where to get to will reap the advantage :harp.

i just wasted 10 minutes reading the last 4 pages of this thread (since my last post on his thread). i want my 10 minutes back... absolute tripe

First game in Tiger colours was very very good. Must have severely embarrassed the likes of Jordan and Ritchie with his running and chasing.

Is coming from a long way behind but has been clean for at least 3 months now.

Clearly a leader at the club already. Just a fantastic achievement in all respects.

One thing I really did like about Cousins. TV Footage showed the Benny when the half time siren went. He made a point of finding and giving encouragement to all of our first gamers. Didn't seem to bother with the established players but made a point to find the young ones.

I liked what I saw.

Clearly he was trying to turn all into naughty little boys. ::)

Hasn't put a foot wrong thus far.

Today Ben Cousins played another great game in yellow and black. He has done all that has been asked of him on and off the ground and the time is now ripe to announce that he is a wanted player for 2011. When he signs many important signitures will follow.

:clapping :clapping :clapping

Nah he was great..showing Jacko Cotch and Dusty where to stand and when to take off and giving encouragement to all our youngsters even when things looked bad for us... Just great footy and great leadership and I'l bet that if he signs now some big names will quickly follow.

Agree too. I wish Benny all the best in his quest to make the team in 2011 but he is just going right now. Last year once he got his body right he dominated games, this year he's ok but he is not improving. He's turned the corner on the last straight of the season but the legs have no kick.

I thought he was very good again today. Yep, lacks pace but was very, very cool when we needed it.

I'd give him another year to continue the development of Cotchin, Martin etc. With such a young list in development mode we can afford to keep him.

Cuz had 10 contested possessions today same as Cotchins and Collins.
Cuz also had 21 disposals with an effective rate of 76%.
Sure he may not be as fast but hes using footy smarts, competing and marshalling the troops out there.
On current form theres no reason why he shouldnt sign on for another year.

I really wish he'd kick it more, unless it is a directive from the coaching staff that he should look for the handball before the kick. I think either way Cuz has redeemed himself 100 times over while also contributing to our greater good. Would love to see him playing next year for all the right reasons ie: form, his leadership is great onfield but this can't be the only reason we sign him up as our young group have grown and will have to learn to stand on their own 2 feet (so to speak), in the end 2011 would be his last year and would hate to see him play a hand full of games and bow out like Richo.

I must say whilst I am very sceptical of Cousins and not in favour of recruiting him, I am very impressed with the way March & co. have handled this whole situation.
By making a bold statement that will stick with youth at pick 6, they have really knocked the ball back into the AFL's court which takes some of the heat off us should Benny fall over.
Smart work.

He was ok. Not great.

ToO you have never truly liked the idea of an exjunkie playing in the Yellow and Black and you have been against Cousins coming to Tigerland.

Today when the game was there to be won - Cousins burst through a pack of players scrummaging for the ball - picked up that ball deftly handpassed it to Newman who drilled it lace our to Jack. Goal to the Tigers. We only won by 4 points so that goal was pretty significant.

Cousins further marshalled the troops and put his body on the line numerous times to shephard and protect his team mates.

And the scene at the end of the game where Cousins who could barely raise a trot because he had given his all, jogged up to Delidio and the two embraced in a victory hug - you could tell that Delidio and his fellow young players have so much respect for their on-field mentor.

And you could tell he was rapt with the way his young team mates stood up and played today.

Ben Cousins has been and if he continues next year will continue to be very good for this RFC team. And thats a fact.............
