As NYT states the figure were available as they had been mentioned in the media when benny posted it. Just because it hadn’t been posted on the membership tally on the RFC website doesn’t make it any less truthful.

I clearly told you why I asked benny about his figures already. He chose not to answer my question but you did. I certainly never for one second questioned the validity of them or alluded to them being untruthful in any way.

Also I think you will find Cullen works for AFL.com rather than RFC.

Ok you probably know better than me in that regard to Mic's job role and who employs him. I don't profess to have that info but I know he is a Richmond supporter who has written our game reports etc from games in the west for years and his articles have for richmondfc.com.au after them. Certainly a lot of articles on our site have been written by mic in recent months.

Western mentioned playing the Cousins card, not me. I'm not sure how he even defines that. You haven't mentioned the articles on the club site that I referred to in reply to Western despite quoting my comments about that. You mention all of the players being interviewed as though they're club sanctioned, which I assume they are, and most of them discuss Cousins. Mark Coughlan certainly did. I didn't hear the other interview you specifically mention. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. If the club think Ben is dramatically increasing our membership numbers they'd be silly not to have his name out there as much as possible.

My post that Western singled out wasn't questioning the Cousins card. It was a direct reply to benny furrs saying hardly a word was coming out of the club this time last year and my point was that the club made it very clear last year that they were going to let their footy do the talking rather than giving interviews etc***, and both you and Western have responsed without considering the context. Not surprising really, it's certainly not the first time.

Anyway I don't have any interest whatsoever in discussing it any further with you scoop. You mightn't think they're putting Cousins name out there but I think they have been. I think it's their job to.

Rosy my "Cousins card" comment was in response to the general theme of this post over the last 6 or 7 pages. And what I meant by the “Cousins card” is that you and other have stated that RFC has focused near exclusively on Ben Cousins since his arrival with regards to any media. I was implying that I certainly don’t think that is the case and the majority of media around Ben has been generated by journos rather than RFC. The first or second question Lids was asked this morning on SEN was about Ben!

Yeah, and I'm getting sick of it.

For what it's worth, however, I reckon our players have handled their interviews (including the ceaseless Cousins questions) really well.

You're implying the club told the players to talk up Ben Cousins so we can have an increase in memberships etc, but it's the media bringing his name into the interview.

Question 1:

"How is Ben fitting into the group?"

This isn't a club driven campaign, although the answers to these expected questions are in line with the club's planning.

What about the context of my post?

You were originally saying Ben Cousins hasn't brought any extra enthusiasm to the club, to which I reminded you of how silent last year was. I am aware of why we were silent, but it is irrelevent because we were discussing this quote:

rosy23 said:
There is enthusiasm in and around the club every pre-season benny or not.

...to which I disagreed with. There is some enthusiasm every year, but this year there is WAY more and it is largely because of Ben Cousins.

Yes, I know that last year we planned to let the footy talking, but that supports my argument! This year there is more hype and enthusiasm. It's partly from Cotchin and Jackson etc, but most of the exposure is due to Cousins.

it's funny... cuz was drafted only 5 weeks ago (with the 2 week xmas/new year break in between) and people are already considering eating humble pie? :hihi or is it that you have been swept up in some of the excitement?

Of course it's the excitement Ian, he hasn't kicked a football in anger what else could it be?

Agree the excitement. But some people refuse to believe that he has generated any.

Memberships being up can only be a good thing.
It's great that fringe members are digging into their pockets in the hope that Benny lifts us into the finals.
Money in the club coffers can only be a good thing at times of financial trouble.

I'll save my excitement for Cuz until I see how he plays this season but I'll admit early signs are good.

Well said Oldie. I don't really care what the cause of all the excitment is as long as its bringing members and money to the club and that it translates into on field success.

After all that is what we all crave.

That's fair.

Happy to cop a feed of humble pie when I'm proven wr wr wr ahh fuckit! Stupid word.
Didn't really see the need for adding a thirty year old who has hardly played for two years and had major hamstring problems to the list, we've already got our own twenty six year old with similar problems.
I don't expect any major onfield contribution from Cuz, if he plays a Banger Harvey type role of the bench for a season or two we'll have done o.k. Thats about the best I expect.
If Cuz gets back to first class, I'll sing his praises as loud as anyone and those with long memories who want to give me a dose of "I *smile* told ya so" can feel free to indulge. I'll wear it if and when the appropriate time arises.

Even if he doesn't play a game, he's already made enough of an impact to justify the pick IMO.

He tells the group the difference between finishing 1st and 9th is just how hard you train, it means something coming from him.

I consider the Eagles midfield the greatest that I have personally seen and today they've said Cuz is teaching Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Tuck, Tambling etc all the inside tricks that made the Eagles midfield so successful - you can't buy that kind of knowledge! Well, unless you're willing to part with the last pick in the PSD ;D  :hihi

Is that so? Please provide a link to where I originally said that.

OK. I am a little confused by the turn this thread has taken.

not sure what the argument is with Rosy, Westy and the furburger but I think most of us have missed whatever point u guys r trying to make.

My view......
was totally against Cuz being recruited

now he has been will support him as long as he does the right thing by the richmond footy club

he as undoubtedly added an aura to the rfc this season

the club's pr guys would be foolish not to cash in on that

us supporters who have ben waiting more than 28 years for another success will not tolerate a hollywood or bollywood build up and then a poor season.

be sure......2009 has to be a turning point for the club and i will not be happy if it turns into a cousins drama show at the expense of our progress as a footy club.

Go Tigers.......Go Benny and go and get stuffed to the other 15 clubs........2009.. the year the Tiger roars

After I spoke about Benny bringing all this extra enthusiasm to the club, you replied with:

"There is enthusiasm in and around the club every pre-season benny or not."

...in context with what I was saying it came across as though you were were trying to tell me Benny hasn't given us this extra enthusiasm and we get it every year regardless.

There is supposedly another story about Cuz having dinner in the HUN, anyone starting to feel like with have David Beckham playing for us?

What impact? Hype *smile* and singin and dancin, it's freakin January nothings happened yet.

He tells the group the difference between finishing 1st and 9th is just how hard you train, it means something coming from him.

Ooooh so if Plough or Toad tell them anything it's all frogshit from decrepit hacks but if Benny says something it's all fascinating gospel glory hallelujah.

Voss, Black, Lappin, Akermanis plus a fringie like Power might beg to differ.
With four back to back grandfinals and a treble in their with an extra brownlow thrown in I think they've got yours covered.
