I'm sure the same rules apply for the scenarios you mention
agree but the governing bodies can't or don't see fit to control information on the scenarios I mentioned.
I'm not necessarily against protecting the players privacy, my point is that their privacy is protected in regards to drug use (excluding alcohol), but not other private matters. I know this has been passed by law, but I don't like it.

I also acknowledge that this is a stressful subject for forum administrators :)

Pretty sure the names were released by Ch7 until an injunction was placed on them and the information suppressed pretty quickly.

Wasn't some woman charged over leaking the info? Or am I thinking of something else?

There was another case before that, maybe even 2006 where the names of the 3 players on 2 strikes at the time were leaked. It was never publicised but the names could be found on the internet probably still can be now with some diligent googling. I think this is what Western is referring to and yes he is correct except for the fact that they were never named, an injunction was obtained to stop the media outlets from disclosing the names.

If anyone agrees with Western that a Richmond player has since been named in the media as being on 2 strikes I'd appreciate a PM advising me the name of the player referred to so I can do a search on PRE.  I struggle to believe one of our players has been publicly named because PRE would go into meltdown if that ever occured and I don't recall that happening.

Come on Rosy you know who it is!

Going by santa's last post maybe you were commenting that the player wasn't a Tiger then but he is now, rather than it wasn't a Richmond player named as I mentioned in the quote you used.

The Tiger players I've heard mentioned in regard to positive tests have been at Richmond for years.

It all goes to show how inaccurate info can be posted even with the best intentions and yet again we request people don't name names, or identify players, in regard to this issue.

Bingo!

everyone knows who the 3 players were on two strikes they were named in the media before their names were quickly removed.
and yes one them is a tiger and no its not ben cousins.

the names weren't mentioned in the media, they were mentioned on another supporter website before being removed after legal action was threatened. all 3 played for interstate clubs at the time and 2 of them have changed clubs since.

as for the other players on 2 strikes... yes they were playing in the finals last year. i don't know their names (i have my suspicions), but i know which club they're from... the club they played for were leaked from some medical report paid for by a ch 7 journo.

That is exactly what I meant.

I think you will find at the time when we were showing interest in trading for this player a number of people on PRE tried to use this as a reason as to why we should not trade for him.

Rosy Disco actually removed posts a few weeks back when claw and I were debating about another issue involving this player.

At the time when the names came out they were mentioned freely by members of the media around Melbourne behind closed doors! I have no doubt they were correct.

The guy we traded for was very unpopular when he arrived (If anyone remembers, it's me - I stuck my heels in defending him and went to every pre-season match to give a detailed reports on him for another forum... I was one of his biggest online fans voicing an opinion).

Anyway, now he's one of the most popular blokes around the club, he hasn't dragged us down into that spiralling pit of drug abuse and poor culture people argued with me and others about, fans love him and now he's a very positive influence around the club.

I believe history will repeat itself.

Ben Cousins (back on topic!) drew similar heat to this traded player before we got him.

People warned of all these terrible things that would happen if we got Ben, just like the traded player.

Benny's going to become just as loved around the club as this other player and he will be a huge positive influence on us. All the doomsday theories will prove to be wrong, again. Other clubs will seriously regret passing up the opportunity to snare The Cuz.

Every single doubter of that 2 strike player has changed their tune in regards to the off-field destruction he was going to cause.

I expect the same to happen with Benny Cousins. In fact, it's pretty much happened already.

In fact? No it hasn't it Ben's challenge has only just begun with us.

This post is quite laughable. How can you possibly draw any sort of comparison between the circumstances of both said players?
but you just did so I wonder if you are just giving us all a laugh.

Take it fwiw, but one of the Fox sports readers (Stubbs) mentioned that he saw Ben hanging out with...wait for it...Michael Gardiner today.

I'll worry about it when they are in a police van together. Life's too short to be jumping at shadows.

Hence the take it fwiw comment......

Sorry Red, didn't mean to sound short with you or shoot the messenger. I just don't see the need for all these updates on what he eats and who he is with it's getting bloody ridiculous. If people genuinely were interested in his welfare and "success story" of making a comeback that would leave him alone, they are hypocrites who won't admit they are leeches waiting for him to fall over and while they do it, talk out the corner of their mouth about "how we all wish he makes a successful comeback". Yeah right. Gutless wonders the lot of em.

The comparison between these two players was in regards to supporter opinion towards them, not of their off-field nature. Both of these two players attracted a lot of critisism before we got them, and after a while the first one became a bit of a favourite and the second one is clearly becoming a favourite too in general.

Your first line is way off topic. What, do you think I'm saying Ben's challenge is over?! Give me a little respect.
