Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

I'm really happy for Ben and his family that Ben has publicly admitted his drug addiction and thought Ben spoke really well. I watched the news with my sister and brother in law who lost their son to drugs. Drug addiction is very serious lee. It's no exaggeration to say it's a matter of life and death.

Some people might want a cheap fix of a champion footballer but I for one care more about Ben's life than his career. I wish him success in the year ahead and hope he comes back to AFL better than ever but there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge before that happens.

Best wishes Cuz...life is precious. I hope you beat the demon drugs no matter what direction your life takes.

Very, very well said rosy.

I see drug addicts day in day out Rosy and see the devastation it causes - but I dont see those same signs with Ben Cousins. My nephew is an addict so yes, I have also seen it first hand. I am not condoning drugs - I just wanted the chance to pick up a star player for once - I am sick of the Tigers missing out at every turn.

He's never tested positive despite being tested 14 times yet at least 3 players are running around the AFL in anonymity after testing positive twice. See, even Tooheys agrees now.

What happened to the AFL not wanting to 'name and shame'. Pea-hearted hypocrites.

Agree JB the Leagues Policy is a joke and have said so many times.

That doesn't mean that Ben should not be made to account for his behaviour after all it was that behaviour that forced him into the spotlight and the subsequent revelations of his substance abuse.

I agree they are hypocritical and have said so all along, however the punishment for Ben was correct IMHO, but the AFL now need to revisit their own policy to try and ensure that this situation is not repeated. Unless that happens I am sure there will be further instances similar to this in the not too distant future. Will it take on on field death before they wake up I hope not.

Ben has to be accountable for his actions, but the AFL has to do the same and admit their drug policy has failed them and Cousins and will do so again unless it is changed.

Yeah what a great way to help someone with a drug problem take away something they love and then say "there you go you've got 12 months of free time to sit around to think about it, hope you don't get bored".

He's lost his girlfriend, the Weagles captaincy & his football career so far because of his habits.
It's a fair fall from the grace of Brownlow medals and premierships.

There are plenty of signs there Lee.

how good would he be if he was off the junk?

we possibly will never know as 12 months out of the game he will find it hard to return at all.

Please - no one mention how lucky we will be to get that twit Richards now Benny is off the table - I will throw up if anyone so much as hints at it. That is the most laughable pick up the Tigers could ever make. :vomit :vomit :vomit

Im going to bed - had enough of today and Freddy awaits :sleeping

Ben got in this mess while doing something that he loves. The AFL are supervising Ben's rehab. and it sounded to me like they'll be encouraging and supporting him all the way.

I'm bowing out of this discussion. I support Ben's request to be given space. I am gobsmacked anyone thinks more about Richmond winning a couple more games than they do about a person's life, a life that's seriously at risk of being snuffed out if recent behaviour continues.

Exactly....this could well be the end of cousins...and i dont just mean his AFL career...AFL has taken the last thing Cousins had (for no reason but his own)...i fear the ramifications for Ben and although i think the AFL had to make a stand...im not sold on this 12 months off tripe especially wwith a guy who has a lot of disposable income and now a lot of free time.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

yeah, i can't see him writing a novel, or going off and doing a bachelor of commerce.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Cousins admits he has a drug addiction, and some of you still whinging and complaining how unlucky Richmond is to not be able to get his services. One thing I've learnt from all this, the selfishness of some astounds me.

Anyone taking illegal drugs of any sort should be banned. There should be no excuses, no grey areas. You could have argued for Charles too when he was caught, as he was taking drugs to speed up an injury, not to try and improve his on-field performance to get an unfair advantage. To me it makes no difference, illegal drugs were used and he should have been banned as he was.

In most sports, persons taking drugs are suspended from competing. Cousins as someone mentioned is lucky in one way that he has only to stand out of AFL footy for one year. But I still maintain this gives him the chance to get his own life together without the pressures of playing AFL footy. Cousins will come back a better person in a year's time and that is much more important than being a great footballer. Cousins has an immense talent. I have no doubt he will be picked up by a club in a year's time as he has at least 3 or 4 years of good service left.

I will be happy when the AFL kicks out the other 24 players that are drug addicts.

Well allowing him to return last year didn't do him any favours either 8ty. At least this way there is still light at the end of the table. Something had to change to break the cycle.
