Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

If we want cuz our only chance is getting him this year. A year out of the game and coming back a la watson will only be beneficial to a mature club on the cusp of a flag which i don't think we will be. I agree with most that this is going to get messy and like everyone will be waiting the outcome of the meeting hoping all is revealed.
Yeah kaelan if Ben able to go into psd and be able to play in 2008 ok take him imo, if he has to stand out for 12 months for 2009, time maybe spent on young bloke.

All in all to many potential ramifications until outcome of tomorrows hearing, hopefully things are clearer by tomorrow night, maybe wishful thinking, but just have to wait and see.

Simple if the AFL give him the all clear to play, u grab him without hesitation cause if we dont someone else will.

this story does go on to say that Benny may come clean and sit out for 12 months - my thinking here is why would he do that. Vlad has no new evidence to charge Ben with at the moment except for long ago indiscretions but the AFL did not charge him when that all went down - the way it stands today is that Ben does not have three, two or one drug stikes and no charges against him so I wonder how the Commission will get around that.

If I was Benny I would be saying - show me what you have against me please. When Vlad and his mates fail to produce anything of value, Benny should then advise them that he WILL be nominating for the PSD and if the Commission block that then they will see them in court. Benny's lawyers should have the papers ready to serve on the Commission.

I can't see how the Commission can win as they allowed Ben to return to footy - they sanctioned it in fact and since then Teflon has had nothing stick against him so technically he is clean with the law.

Monday is looming and the Commission will be spending today I would say, trying to figure out how to stop Ben going into the draft - but the only way that can happen I would think is if Benny told them he would sit it out.

I will look out tomorrow for the outcome with interest. :hihi

You are missing the poing here TL. Everyone in Ben's camp, including Ben himself, is not disputing that he has a case to answer in this matter it would appear.

For either side to adopt a confrontational stance will only result in a messy, lengthy, costly battle that will probably end up in Court. Not an ideal situation for either party and both parties know it.

I think you will find both parties seeking a compromise out of all this which benefits both parties, yet does not compromise eithers best interests. What that will be who knows, but I think the line that most are offering in that Cousins will be permitted to enter the draft in 2009 if he sits out this year and proves he has overcome his "health" problems will be a plausibe outcome.

A win win for both parties, AFL get to flex some muscle, show they are sympathetic and genuine in their drug rehabilitation stance, no legal action against them, Cousins gets a chance to get his life back on track, he still has a hope of ressurecting his AFL career at another club, it takes the pressure of clubs a little in that they will have a better idea of his mental and physical well being come draft time in 2009, Ben if he gets himself right would still have a few years left in the game.

To go head to head will not benefit anyone.

But the fact remains Ben still has to get himself right both mentally and physically before he can return to the game IMHO. His health is more important at this time in his career.

Geez Gus, you can't blame Benny for number 5, he's not even there anymore.

But Cousins is why Embley and Chick first came to blows so draw your own conclusions.

Still 4 out of 5 aint bad. ;D

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

What worth would Cousins be if he returned to AFL in 2009 at the age of 30 and without match fitness after 1 year out of football?

agree - I dont think we would look at him at all. We would like the immediate impact that he could offer in 2008 - not in 2009!

No Im not gustiger - I just dont want to think anything else. I know Ben has major issues but my point remains - if by some miracle he gets in that PSD then the Tigers need to take him and not leave another club to use him against us and that club WILL be Carlton - mark my words. They would not pass on him that is for sure. I do not want that to happen. I do know the realities though - just not admitting them! Let me dream please :spin

I have it all worked out. If we pick him and he succeeds, I'm taking all the credit. If it blows up in our face I'm blaming you for your constant negativity. ;D

Oh oh. Look out.....

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

i do not believe cuz will play AFL football again, and we would be stupid even if he was up for grabs to be taken. We are about to pick up a gun midfielder named Cothin, we already hav foley, deliedio, coughlan, tucky, brownie (from time to time) playin in their, why bring someone who could possibly hit rock bottom at any given time because of substance abuse for the sake of stocking up our midfield. he wont be the difference between us playing in the grand final or not but he could easily bring a lot of unwanted tension to our club and playing group that we dont need if he does go off the rails mid season. I dont doubt his abilty but drafting him isnt the answer and would be a mistake.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Does anybody but Mike sheahan and his devotees have it confirmed that Cuz would be willing to take 12 months off . If he does take 12 months off he comes back to the comp, via the psd meaning the worst performed team of 08 . In a nutshell he does not have a chance of playing finals again. If however he plays in 08 there is a chance 09 could see finals action. People will argue passionately the negatives of him joining the tiges and there are many. But this guy is an out and out superstar of the league one whose training regime and mental toughness are second to none. Will he be there in 2011 probably not but what he could teach the likes of foley lids and cotchin on the field would go a long way in their devolpment instilling in them what is needed to to get the most from yourself.

I have it on good mail that one of the big reasons Judd left the Weagles is due to his immense lack of respect for the culture which Cousins is a part of. For Carlton to draft Cousins they would be upsetting Judd and no club would want to do anything that would put a player like him out of sorts.
