Worst List in the Comp for the Next few years

It all comes back to recruiting and development. I'm still far from convinced we are even anywhere near the mark in these areas. Watching Rance fumble and bumble his way around the field gives more cause for concern. Pick 18 from 2007. He makes Duncan Kellaway look like Darren Jarman.

And what was Kellaway like in his 12th game?

Kellaway played, what, 180 games for RFC. His kicking was as shithouse in his 180th game as it was in his first. Given Rance is young but he can't *smile* kick!!! Like Kellaway it is unlikely to get any better. Are you not sick of watching blokes who can't *smile* execute the basic skill of the game playing for RFC?? Especially those taken with high draft picks?

Polo is another; pick 20. Pattison another; pick 16. It goes on.

You're saying coaching has no effect, that it didn't matter that we had Wallace for the last 5 years?

A good coach might be able to move us up the ladder a little but we'd still be miles off.

What was it 15+ goals from turnovers today?
You can't coach teams that make the same basic skill errors over and over again.

We need more footballers that can kick just for starters. We are currently carrying a shedfull that cannot.

The problem is we keep putting more in the shed at the draft and trade every year.

Why is it that every other club is taking active steps to improve their list but the RFC keeps extending duds contracts, recycles other clubs discards. What is this mythical "screening process" the Club talks about? Here's a tip, why don't you start with "screening" their kicking? If they pass, you can continue with the rest of your screening. If they fail their kicking, then :wave

last year of uncompromised draft for a few years. we have to get rid of as many duds as we can. id rather take a chance on pick 80, than keep a dud who have been given chances and has prooved he is a dud. nothing to lose, but everything to potentially gain. not a reasonable number, too many players to turnover in a year crap. we should get rid of at least 12 players, more!!!

sheesh an amazing thread not for its content or the telling of the facts by smart posters like my good self. no its because that jb dumb 03 actually started a thread and got it right, wonders will never cease old red wont believe it when hes told.

;D Can't say anymore as any reference to Voldemort will lead to my post being deleted but yes, after today it is hard to argue that I didn't get it right. We should keep the Hawks in the hunt next week and will be smashed by a resurgent Eagles in the last round.

And yes you have got it right to a degree but your insistence on keeping Graham, Hislop and JON around for at least another year has me concerned.

We are stuffed. There are no two ways about it.

Ideally we would get rid of say 25 players, replace them and have the newbies learn their football in an environment where the stench of past failures doesn't linger in the air and the cancer doesn't get passed on from one generation to the next. it would take time, but is probably the only way this embarassment of a football club will turn things around.

Unfortunately, it can't happen this way and the changes to the list will be merely window dressing. Strap yourselves in, for the ride won't get any easier over the next few years.

Coaching, smoaching. Start picking the right players and don't tolerate glass half full types.

"The Kellaway sydnrome" as a wise former poster put it.

We have about 25 VFL type players on the list.
here here pooper.
ya know what though we will be prone to taking vfl type players like all clubs do. the key is not keeping them to long. quickly recognise the mistake and move on.

anyone who does not expect recruiting mistakes are kidding themselves. target players who at the very least meet a minimum skillset requirement and minimise the risk of getting it wrong. pelchens grading system anyone. or something similar.

Glad we beat the bombers and melb a few weeks ago, it helps ease the disappointment of another failed year

Looking forward to a St Kilda type resurgence on the back of smart player "development" and some minor tweaking of the list

We're not as far away as it looks on paper

With Freo on the improve and Kangas beating the Saints it is now pretty clear we have the worst. The Kangas big men department is miles better than ours.

That's an outrageous statement. We've got Goofy Graham and Pattison. What could be better than that?

Tipping us for last place on the ladder next year jimbob?

Yep, I'm so happy with Jordan McMahon. He's fantastic. He kicked the winning goal against Melbourne and his ferocious tackling as displayed against Buddy last night is the icing on the cake.

Tom Scully? Pfffftt!! Who needs him when we have Jordy?

Nah, I reckon 6 or 7 wins on the back of improvement in the 21-24 year old brigade and a (hopefully) fit Cotchin.

That's tops. Should jag us about pick 19 for our first round draft pick.
