World Cup 2018

Germany have equalized and are dominating the second half.

Yeah but their inability to score has been Australia like, and with a player sent off.

EDIT and now Germany score with something special. Sweden have done nothing after going a man up.

Wow, what a game.

Sweden were rubbish after half time
Nothing but defending even after boetang
Got sent off they were never going to defend a 1 nill lead.

I ‘ve often looked at Scandanavian sides, Norway, Sweden, Denmark (and in recent years, you can add Iceland to that) with interest. Not overly big countries, so not an astronomically massive pool of players. Add to that, although soccer is a prominent sport there, they’re not countries so obsessed with it that it’s followed like a religion. Particularly in the case of Norway and Sweden, soccer doesn’t have a monopoly on the best athletic talent either, with winter Olympic sports being extremely popular.

Yet, Scandinavian sides tend to consistently perform relatively well at major championships (getting through Europe to a World Cup is a huge task as it is). And to me, they never look anything close to spectacular. Just well organised. Makes you think, there are no valid excuses why Australia shouldn’t be able to produce teams at least reaching the level of Scandinavian nations on a consistent basis.

Although not a Nordic country. I kind of look at Switzerland in a similar light. In fact, to me, they usually look a better side than the Nordic countries.

I suppose a nice, friendly draw between France and Denmark would close the door on us. Watch it happen.

5-0 and it’s not even halftime.
England are either playing out of their skins or Panama is just one far canal

Looks like it.

Bloody hell, even the 6th was a joke. Pommies mucking around and still went in accidentally. Panama just cardboard cutouts.

Panama were *smile* and they were bad in a way that is not sympathetic given the way they tried to cheat.

They were indeed.

Although, one point I'll make. The one goal that Panama did score - although it was very good - did expose some chinks in the English defensive armour. That was terrible defending. They left two Panama players an absolute paddock to work with. Will this be exposed when they come up against better opposition?

This is where the Belgium Vs England game becomes intriguing. Both seem quite potent up forward, each with it's proven star striker that can find the net. But both teams, I feel, are a bit suspect at the back.

OK, weve seen a fair bit of soccer.

Who do folks reckon?

I think Belgium beat Croatia to take the cup

Despite the fact it would be great to see someone new win it. I'm certainly not writing off Germany. You just feel that second half against Sweden was a momentum changer for them. They have been such a dominant team over the past few years and that may have been the spark to wake the sleeping giant from it's sluggish start to the tournament.

Japan v Senegal was a very good match. So far Senegal would win the award for the most honest team. Unforgivable lack of diving and staging.

The powerhouses also shift a gear come knock out time. France, Germany, Brazil still in it. England doing well enough to hopefully get kicked out in the Qtr finals in a penalty shoot out.

I was hoping they lose in injury time to a handball that Maradona would be jealous of ;)

Thanks Baloo. I hope we don't but looking like we could potentially be playing Brazil or Germany in the quarters so you could be right. I thought last nights performance though was very Un-England like. We seem to have changed from a largely defensive team, that gets exposed, to a bit more of an attacking team. Albeit we have only played Tunisia and Panama. The final group game against Belgium will be interesting to see how far we've come.

Agree with PT, both sides look suspect defensively and will be exposed by better teams. A better team than Tunisia would have put 4 past Belgium the other night. Likewise a better team than Panama may have kicked 3 against us.

Its really hard this year as no real standout teams. I still think Spain personally.

The real McCoy.

That being the case Posh. If both teams play their A-Team and go all out, could well be a few goals scored. Could we see a total of 6-7 goals scored between them for the match?
