Welcome Tom Brown

Brown was alright last night. Still, I want more than just ‘alright’.

In contrast, Adelaide’s Michalanney, a 20yo, 190cm defender taken at pick 17 in the 2022 draft had 25 disposals last night. Based on the praise heaped on Brown in this very thread, that kind of performance would make the PRE collective explode.

Finally many are seeing Tom is going to be special ,as I know for a fact from a afl recruiter that Melbourne, Sydney ,Geelong all were going to take Brown,so tigers took him first.

That and keep developing his ground ball game. Reckon that can come on as well.

But as someone who sat on the fence on him, he can 100% be a weapon for us.
Same.

Will judge him on effort without the ball.

Similar style to Jordan Dawson. When he was at the swans dawson sat loose in defence, marked the incoming and used his great kick to advantage.
For mine thats the role for Brown

And like Dawson has the potential in time to become an elite midfielder, if he can get his tank to the level.

Brown has played 12 games at an average 13.64 disposals

Michalanney has played 35 for career average disposals of 12. His first 12 games had an average of just under 10. Last nights game was his first with over 20 disposals.

So going to be interesting to see Brown's output in 12 months time

He’s still got a bit to work on - only a pup - but geez couldn’t believe the knocks on him by so many. Obvious class from waaay back.
Going to be a player has everything except he doesn't like body contact.Miller is the same.

Michalanney had 19 at half time, unsighted in 2nd half. Brown had 11 intercepts to 5, 10 contested possies to 6, 2 turnovers to 5. I preferred Brown's game, it was more impact, less easy sideways kick receive. On top of this Michalanney has played 35 games and wasn't out for an extended period of time with an injury. At 195cm Brown is much more suited to a key position role as well and looks like he really can play against taller or shorter. I'll keep Brown for greater upside at this stage although I do wish Michalanney well with his power stance practise sessions.

Edit: website actually says Brown is 193cm but others have noted it could be anywhere between 186cm & 193cm. I've ordered a tape measure to be delivered to Punt Road.

Imagine that we'd skipped him in the draft, like many have suggested we should've at the time and since.

There's no doubt we would now be mentioning him in the same sentence as other gun Swans youngsters - "Why can't we draft blokes who use it so well like Gulden, Brown, Warner, Campbell etc" - and would've already played in a grand final.
Yep. The “should’ve selected Jacob van Rooyen” brigade have gone very quiet :))

Now I don't use David King as a barometer of reason or knowledge for that matter but I can when it suits my narrative ;)

Whilst Kane and Kingy mostly concentrated on how bad Adelaide were, Kingy said now before we move on from Richmond,:

Tom Brown had a game high 11 intercepts, he knows what to do with it every single time, he see's things others don't, can kick 50 to 60 meters off one step, he is going to be a STAR and was an absolute STEAL where he was selected in the draft;):)

Michalanney plays on the best small (Bolton) each game too.
