Welcome Tom Brown

Bowdo is a good example of what Tom should aspire to be. Was evident early Joel was a star though.
His cameo against Port late last year was exciting no doubt but Brown needed to force himself into the side in year three. That he's likely failed to do so is a setback & a touch disappointing. I'm sure Yze would kill for his laser kicking skills out of defence.
I won't write him off yet but he should be dominating VFL at the very least this year & demand a snr spot if he's going to succeed.
Bowden would bob up everywhere. Similar to the Greater Rance, he was seemingly everywhere and always saving the day or at least holding back the tide.

Now experience will help greatly, plus fitness, but Brown needs to be more involved.
As an aside the Pies praccy match had more pressure than the last round v Port. Brown and Tresize had an easy debut

I'm aware stats can be a poor track of a good game or a one that is padded with data but no influence.

From a defensive perspectives, the AFL credited Brown with the following:
* 3 spoils
* 0 contested or intercept marks
* 1 contested one on one, which he won.
* 7 pressure acts in defensive half - of our backs, only Broad was higher, the others were all mids.
* 2 tackles
* 4 score involvements
* 2 scoring outcomes started from him
* 4 intercept possessions (not from marks)
* 6 ground ball gathers
* 4 one %ers

What does that mean? Apart from Champion Data are checking for such minutiae they must have some absolute geeks chasing data....
it means that there's at least other measures clubs are looking for, to determine whether an individual is performing their role.

How many people on this site would be considering any of the guff when they are considering if a player is successful?

People mentioning that it has taken Brown 3 years to get into the top side and using that as a negative. Most likely I am mistaken but I thought Brown had multiple injuries over the last couple of years and this has been his first full preseason

RCD and Corey the witness were abject howlers.
TBF with RCD there wasn’t much available at his pick in that 2018 draft. Bobby Hill and James Rowbottom were about it in a year we needed a young mid. The howler was not trading the pick.

Ellis was a howler though. His U18 form didn’t warrant the reach we used on him when Jake Lever & Lachie Weller went in the next 2 picks.

For getting out spirited by Shultz and not bumping him into the fence.
His no good
A real defender wouldve had Shultz calling an ambulance

The Bobby Hill pick...people were annoyed at us taking Baker and Higgins as we had "too many small forwards". Similiar people complaining about taking RCD and missing out on Bobby Hill. Fickle bunch here on PRE.

There's the Zips kiss of death. Pencil Brown in for 200 games and an AA squad as a minimum.

General is just supporting a young player who has played ONE AFL game. Dusty was just as bad, perhaps worse than Brown yet he has copped no criticism. It is easy to knock, much harder to stick fat when the going gets tough.

Lachie Weller was the easy choice that year, pace and kicking, we still need it today. Shocking pick and I tried to support it, there was other clubs that rated Ellis as well. But he was so slow.

Oh yeah, how did Cory get as far as he did with how slow he was and probably a rotten 2km/beep test (in those days). I have some bad memories of seeing some of our dud first Rd picks in action like JON and Cleve Hughes, but Cory was especially saddening considering how much effort was put into that draft.

Was Cleve a first round pick? Thought he was high 20s

You're very welcome.

I love the people declaring players a bust after a pre-season game, in a rush to be the first.

I eagerly await the joy and excitement you'll show with every game the kid tries to learn how to adapt to an AFL level but doesn't meet your kpi levels 😉

Going to be amazing watching the level of support Tom will get over the next 2 years of his contract.

I dont really understand?

Why would i be joyful if hes not up to it?

Do you realise how many whipping boys ive defended on here for their entire careers? I couldnt count em all on all my fingers and toes if my mum had been a gieger counterer in chernobyl.

Are you new?
