Welcome Tom Brown

Can’t wait for the season to start. At least then we would be writing kids off after real games of footy.

nonchalance is one of my favourite characteristics in a footballer.

its almost as rare as the @Dyer'ere Gibkardashian Hover.

who had it?

Joel Bowden, Scott Pendlebury. I can't think of many others?

Mabior Chol's acute and unrelenting laziness was easily mistaken for it.
Dal Santo. D.Jarman. Darryl White. Scarlett. Was Joe Misiti a nonchalant inside player?

Yeh, Vlastuin is elite everywhere. Bravery/composure/disposal. Brown ain't playing that role. Perhaps the Short role is the aim.

oh shut up jazzy and lay off our Tom you troll.

Vlastuin hasnt got a nonchalant bone in his body.

I'll defer to your bruce macavenny photo brain,

and the fact that you diagnosed the n'chance makes you a PRE-eminent expert

darryl white indeed.

they can almost curl up and have a nap in the centre square in overtime and start score chains.

but lets not doll out diagnoses like its ADHD or something.

I think true Nonchalance on a football field is as rare as Hover-ability (im pretty sure I saw D.White hover as well?)

but im not gonna argue

its seminal work, almost worth a thread

Love machines rely on nonchalance - it's part of their schtick

I don't really care too much about non Richmond staff opinions on Brown, the official site said,he played well,so that's much more important than ridiculous over expectations, he's tracking to improve and like all players, will get better with age.

Way too many slamed the same
Asbury
Lambert
Edwards
Earlier almost to mid career age.

Few are as brave and rugged as Vlastuin- anywhere in the league.
While it would be nice if he was, Brown doesnt have to be. That role is to be able to intercept balls in the air- Brown can. To intercept balls on the ground. Brown can. To be able to cover talls for short periods. Brown can. To be able to use the ball incisively through the middle of the ground. Brown can.

The question is whether Brown will. at AFL level.

point taken;

I will watch him through my nonchalance corrective lenses (Ive worn out 3 sets, along with the 2 Utes)

The Joel Bowden effect.

y
ou've got me excited now

excuse me while I go iron on NO. 30
Can you fit "Nonchalant" above the no- American jersey style? (normally I would advocate for such crassness but i think it might work well here. And it would ensure people dont think you still have Tony Free's no on your back.)

Bowdo is a good example of what Tom should aspire to be. Was evident early Joel was a star though.
His cameo against Port late last year was exciting no doubt but Brown needed to force himself into the side in year three. That he's likely failed to do so is a setback & a touch disappointing. I'm sure Yze would kill for his laser kicking skills out of defence.
I won't write him off yet but he should be dominating VFL at the very least this year & demand a snr spot if he's going to succeed.

I didn't see any of the game until last night. I watched the first three quarters last night and I'm a bit surprised (but also not) at how hard some are coming down on Brown. Was it the goal square lost contest to Lachie Schuwearfilter? Didn't look great, but Schuwearfilter is a strong and smart little midget, and had already cheated a free for being touched above the navel. Not great, sure.

I also saw a clean gather and incisive kick from half-back to CHF, where Maynard edged out Ryan. I saw him run on from defence and miss the goal he should have kicked. I saw him win a loose ball deep in defence but fail to clear it, leading to the Filth's first goal. He then spoiled the 203cm Darcy Cameron one-on-one and out of position after the resultant centre clearance. Got caught betwixt and between as Collingwood transitioned for their second goal - neither close enough to effect the ball carrier nor back quickly enough to assist Grimes with Mihocek. (Positioning and or/fitness.) Ran hard to collect and brush past an off-balance DeGoey before delivering inside 50. Lost a ground contest in the goal square to Schuwearfilter. Went back with the flight to spoil Schuwearfilter near the behind post.

I might have missed something? Or yet to see it?

Anyway, he probably goes out for Floss. I still back him.

Whether he was the right pick as above is another question that won't be answered this year unless Van Riewoldt goes quantum.
It almost looks like you’ve punched the words “Brown” and “excuses” into ChatGPT and come up with this.
On any metric he was bog ordinary.
Whether he makes it is another story as he may borrow Dow’s magic carpet and come from the clouds.
But for now, I’m nonchalantly disappointed

Just thought I'd add that Caesar has been banging on about Brown all pre season. This was his summary after the last training season prior to the game on Tuesday. Could have picked a lot more positive stuff from earlier.

"Brown : 1st uninterrupted pre, slightly bulked up and elite skills on display, (plays laconic so might still get tagged by some as lazy or not intense enough but i think that would be wrong)"

And hate machines rely on death riding people and taking joy from their predictions, then repeating their prediction ad nauseum until the player gets delisted or
the club wins a premiership where said individuals ignore the fact they had written the player off and claim them as a much loved Tiger hero....that's part of their schtick.

Na, I just watched and noted.
It’s interesting how people can see two different things.
If you go back to the 2nd quarter, watch how Brown sags off De Goey who, unopposed, drops a regulation chest mark. Brown, who should have been manning him, runs in, cleans up De Goey’s mess and kicks the ball over Samsons head towards the boundary line.
Did you note this piece of play as a positive?
I didn’t

I noticed the clean-up, not the sag-off. I'll have another look.

Lets give him a bit of a break. He has played 1 senior game and been injured a lot during pre season.

Not sure what he will become but he deserves 20-30 games before we make judgement

Could it go one step further?
Mr Nonchalant

Now that's one cool dude.
