keep it up georgie boy, love watching you play. tough crowd in here, he's been good for us and will continue to be.
Sorta agree. For essentially a first year player to get 19 goals so far ( in 16 games) is very good. He's created nearly 40 shots at goal.

The down side is that he's fluffed so many of his shots at and runs at 45% accuracy in front of goal ( including OOBOTF) and you can't have a forward who is ging to let you down so many times in front of goal. It kills you. And with his kicking style I cant see him overcoming his inaccuracy in front of goal. Running half back flanker would suit better IMO.

I like the way george plays. early on, Buddy was returning scores like 1.9 and 2.7, and the consensus was, hes having 9 or 10 shots.

The same can be said of george, except when he gets 10 shots, he'll kick 2.3. Hes also 5'11"

theres an unreliability threshold, and for me George is close to it.

It gets to a point where its just to hard on your nerves. Im sure it gets to a point where blokes wont kick it to him too. Its human nature.

I wonder if L2R2 has any stats on blokes going from horrendous set shots at goal, to semi-reliable set shots over their career?

Ive had the HBF thought too.

His kicking and lack of composure will hurt us more back there. Who would he replace out of interest?

He is playing where it suits him best. Leysy would keep him in for now. He is manic play is generating chances and despite his finishing still kicked two on the weekend.

Such a frustrating player. He could well have had another bag on the weekend - in fact he could've had a few bags this season. He is getting plenty of opportunities which to me says he is tough to match up on in the fwd half...Plenty saying his kicking will cost us a game... very true.... but he is also just the type to bob up in a final and kick 3 or 4 goals.

Absolutely, eight ball.

People need to realize what George does when he bobs up and does his manic thing. If he looks threatening early doors, oppo coaches are forced to put fast flankers on him.

If he manages to draw a heath Shaw for ten minutes here and there, make him accountable, then that's just as valuable as the shots he gets.

George is exactly what you need in a dynamic F50

If he could kick he would be a super stat.
That set shot he kicked into the man on the mark was unbelievable.
My friends and I picked it.

In his first 2 seasons Buddy kicked 52 goals 22 behinds. Has never had the kicking for goal issues Castagna has.

From Sundays team? Broad. Longer term? Probably Houli.

Also I think this term "manic" and "chaotic" gets thrown around as though its a compliment when what it really means is that said player is just....how do I say ....not smooth and clean and doesn't fill the fans with confidence.

"Manic" and "chaotic" are misnomers. "Headless chook" has been thrown around, it may be more apt.

Hard to argue with a just turned 21 year old kicking 19 goals in 17 games. Probably ends up with nearly 30 goals.

You may be right, but currently he is so unreliable. If he missed hard snaps or boundary line set shots, fair enough.
But he misses shots a 12 year old would kick.
His game against port Adelaide was the one for me to say, if doesn't improve he won't make it.
2 weeks later, a simple set shot he kicks into the man on the Mark.
What are the coaches doing???

Hopefully he's getting some special attention on goalkicking routine in training. I've got time for him, he does a lot of things well and works hard. If he can sort this out he's got a good career in store.

His job is to harass, make options, fluke some goals and finish off the work of team mates when simple opportunities come his way. Does the first 3 well but is terrible with the 4th which just kills momentum. Back to the VFL for me until he improves. Given the way the two's are playing will get plenty of practice Which hopefully means he is back into the ones before finals

Houli out for Castagna in the backline.

Rightio Toothless.

If Shaw played on him, would Shaw just play off him knowing that if Castagna does get the ball it is 50/50 which team it will advantage?

im conflict re George, nearly a very good player, but maybe closer to a bad one.

Momentum is often cited by fans/commentators/players but the NFL stats have been studied and it disappears under scrutiny. We feel the momentum but it is probably after the fact. The truth is sometimes the team that is playing better is behind on the scoreboard but over 120mins they eventually triumph. At the ground it feels like they wrestled the 'momentum' off the opposition but in truth they had it all the time.

That said George is doing his job. More than that his speed and unpredictability meshes with the other small forwards and he combines with Rioli really well. Actually Riewoldt can play the traditional forward role but his natural style is more unconventional and more suited to way these guys play. George will fix his kicking. But for now a 21yr old getting that many opportunities is a boon I reckon.
