Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Gets too close to man on Mark. Not the only one either. Look at Jack and Cotch - hardly any run up and only a few steps and much too close.

Yesterday, the lions player standing the mark would take a backward step when the kicker was not looking, trying to fool the kicker that the 'mark' was a few metres closer to goal.

I reckon the tactic worked a few times, surprising the kicker.

He kicked a cracking left legged goal on the run earlier on in the season and at the time thinking 'sh!t' that looked like Acker on the run kicking on his opposite for a sausage roll.

Some people are just sh!t at set goals!

Well imo a "professional" footballer would do something about fixing the problem, not just keep repeating the same mistake over & over & over again.

I was no great shakes as a player but like most blokes I played with, worked harder on my weaknesses than on my strengths, it' the only way you can improve.
George has had the same problem ALL YEAR, it doesn't seem to me that he's done anything to eradicate the problem.

He'd be working his butt off at training to improve no doubt.Every club has one.Look at Daniher - he's getting better,so to Casboult.Just needs time that's all.How many games has he played? I'm guessing no more than 15.Only a pup at the moment!

He may be working his butt off dave but I have not seen any great improvement or Change in his routine. He's still spinning the ball on his way in to kick the ball, that should be the first thing that he eliminates from his routine. Just listen to Jason Dunstall on how to go about it, keep it simple & run straight at the goals is his advice. Not really that difficult in principle.

These guys are payed a lot of money to play the game & they continually miss goals from 20 metres or less every week. It's simply not good enough.

I agree it's not good enough. He'd have to be on thin ice surely.

Big Levi will fit right in!

pretty simple way of alleviating this.....confirm with the umpire where the mark is as part of your goal kicking routine.

If he can't improve his set shots at goal he won't make it, it's as simple as that. The successful small forwards are typically guns at making the most of their opportunities and you just can't go on missing soda set shots for goal.

21 games
Key forwards generally have other strings to their bow, they usually get some leeway.
Small forwards are a dime a dozen if they're one dimensional. If they don't make the most of their opportunities on a regular basis they're in the firing line.

Tried that, hasn't worked. Now he should snap it like Stevie J every single time. His accuracy will improve because he won't feel as nervous. Willing to bet on that.

Kinda like the Georgie. There's not many players that can find a new way to stuff up a simple set shot for goal every single week.
Hunts up plenty of chances at kicking a sausage does George, we'd all be pissing in his pocket n kissing his furry butt crack if he was a little more reliable at his set shot goal kicking.

Never certain where the goals are coming from at the moment, George, Geezer n Daniel just constantly seem to be flashing through the play n either pinging at the goals or sharing the opportunities, they've been fun to watch along with glimpses from Bolton n Stengle. Just imagine how much better it could get with a genuine CHF taking the structure n creating even better options.

I agree with this but he is just so wasteful.

Right now if I had to pick between him and Bolton I would pick Bolton but I am not sure Castagna is playing the Bolton role. The player he is keeping out is probably Lennon and whilst Ben has his obviously faults his conversion is not one of them.

I don't know to be honest. Lennon deserves a chance at some point given his vfl form.

Lennon is a soft, slow VFL player. That will not change. The difference between VFL and AFL football has never been greater IMO. He will never make it, his lack of athleticism is terminal for his AFL career. We can't carry his type.

If George continues to butcher his set shots he will not last either. But at least he can get to places Lennon can't.

have you seen George snap the ball? he actually tends to kick them straight. (as in straight ahead, not straight through the goals.)
perhaps he just needs to aim for the point post and hope he misses the right way.

Georgie may be frustrating coz he misses some easy shots but still is number 3 in the league amongst rising stars for total goals behind Butler #2 and Hipwood #1. Just sayin.
He goes alright. He is just 21 and he will just get better

keep it up georgie boy, love watching you play. tough crowd in here, he's been good for us and will continue to be.
