Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Rumour is that he's joining Dimma at the Suns.

He would still be on our list, right? Or was he delisted prior to the mid-season draft? Maybe we could use him to help get their first pick.
Dimma wanted a tattooist

A walk down memory lane.
This last month we've struggled as bad guys in loose cowboy hats take intercept marks.
One of George's strengths was his ability in the air and commitment to bringing the ball to ground.

We dont need George back but we need someone to play this role.

Whats the old lyrics - "You don't know what you've lost til it's gone"

Still only 27 years old - But by god we could do with George anywhere near his harassing best in our front half ATM.

Unfortunately our own supporters are mainly to do with that not being the case.

Mansell’s doing that job and actually kicks those goals that George usually missed.
And can handball and kick.

Im a Mansell fan, but he doesnt fly into packs like George did.
Peak George doesnt allow Scrimshaw or Ridley to take 10 intercept marks.

Not that George marked many. I don’t know whether George had a licence to fly, often he went up against JR or TM. I think George was see ball get ball. Not get to the foot of the pack and rove the crumbs.
I’ve seen Mansell fly when he’s had to. Maybe he’s able to follow instructions more than George and let the big blokes go for it.

Was Ridley and Scrimshaw his direct opponents or are you just plucking names out?
Funny how they have the same contested mark average. At the same age Mansell was ahead on a lot of stats.

It wasnt meant as a knock on Mansell at all, and he probably is following instructions, and yes George wasnt the strongest mark. But he was very good at making a contest, which was especially important in 2017, when Jack was the only tall. If George was in the area he could jump hard at the ball which made it hard for anyone to mark.

Yeah, he did play his role. 100miles an hour and 100% effort in whatever he did. I’ve always given him that

I wasn’t. But I wasn’t a hater. Just pointed out his many skill flaws that others overlooked, but judged other players by. :giggle:
There’s nothing to forgive. His 100% consistent effort was rewarded with 3 premiership medals. 🥇🥇🥇

Also need to take into account with the stats that 2017-2020 Tigers were always top 3 for inside 50s. This year we're 2nd last. So there were alot more opportunities then as a forward. Castagna did his job in what was a new, unique game plan but he was probably the least skilled in the side. Not really a coincidence that he's no longer playing AFL.

you reckon he retired coz of the supporters?

Mansell isn't Castagna's jocks.
I've never seen Mansell behind the ball.
Never seen him run down opposition.
Take marks on opposition heads.
Castagna and Bulter and Rioli were the original hunters.
Now ever club is trying to copy them.

Its common knowledge it was a significant factor at the very least
100% it was.
When he faces his own backline to kick a goal it shows how bad his kicking was. That’s him acknowledging it himself. Couldn’t kick, couldn’t handball, hardly marked and missed tons of sitters from in front of the goals. Maybe he should have improved his basic skill set while being paid as a professional footballer.

But as I’ve said, I’ve never knocked him for lack of effort. Ever.

He did well to become a millionaire from football and win 3 premierships. Can hardly feel sorry for him. Plenty of players retire due to the mental toll the game takes. Not many blame their own supporters.
