Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

George is copping it left right and centre for his skill error and will likely pay the price with selection.

But why does he cop it more than say Short where his thread is crickets.

Skill error (like Grimes x 2) Vs a selfish, undisciplined act that he had full control of. They are the acts that should be under the most scrutiny.

Don't forget we were 17 points up with only 4 minutes left when he did it. If he thinks of the team and not himself we win.

I think it's pretty simple given what they both offer, and the years they've respectively had.

Yeh, George wasn't a skill error, he made a bad decision. He's clearly struggling with all his decision making, bereft of any confidence.

I watched a replay today, we dominated the last part of the 3rd quarter and botched several great opportunities. Shai not handpassing to Cumberland and taking on a tackler. Shai hitting the post with a relatively easy snap. Pickett missing s relatively easy set shot. Ralphsmith going to ground allowing an easy snap. Grimes missing a tackle that led to a Miller goal.

In the last we had the Aarts simple miss, the Rioli simple miss, the Grimes easy drop & dumb 50 and the worst of all the Short 50 which is easily the worst of all. Doubt we lose if he doesn't give up a goal there.

Nah not at all. He should be dropped until/if he can sort his finishing out.

Just find the blame for the loss rather ridiculous considering the other indiscretion(s) late in the game that get next to no focus.
If you want to raise the errors of Short, Grimes etc, I'm pretty sure they have their own threads.

TOTALLY SPOT ON....THE SHORT AND GRIMES STUFF WAS EVEN WORSE....having loose giants players in the foward line with under a minute to go was amazing in its madness...
In the words of the great Danny Frawley…”yeah, nah Arlo”. That miss was almost as bad as Blight running through the goalsquare to kick a point. It would have ended the contest. A goal and we were 23 points up and the shoulders of the GC players would have dropped to their waists. If it was an outlier. We get over it. But it’s not. I hope young Georgie is ok with the vitriol that has come his way this week, cos he has copped plenty but that miss highlighted the skill errors he makes. Over. And over. And over again.

He could have kicked the goal earlier (assuming he kicked straight which is a leap of faith), he could have run on like he did and drawn the defender with an easy handball over the top to Cumberland who walks into the square for his 3rd. But he does? Neither…..

Short has been a very good player for some time and Grimes has been a dead set champion. Both of them made errors. Both of them can be cut some slack for what they have done over time. Neither Short or Grimes would have been placed in a position to make those errors if we had scored that goal. George makes basic mistakes repeatedly.

I am still stunned that on very mediocre VFL form he got recalled.

Many players have given away 50's like Short did.

Not many if any have stuffed up an easy open goal like George did. He also stuffed up another 4 relatively easy shots.

Giants players? You’re right, it’s amazing. What were they doing there. The club should investigate

I think George's demise is best sized up by that missed shot against Geelong.

Running into an open goal 40 - 45 out with only minimal pressure from a chasing opponent and managed to MISS THE ENTIRE PLAYING FIELD, and not just miss either. Seriously it nearly went off at 90 degree angle.

Lost all confidence in his kicking ability has George.

Reckon George is a product or perpetrator of what annoys me the most with our players.Too much look at me,look at me *smile* and not enough clinical/purpose type of football.

All of the above - but the last line is the clincher

Castanga totally *smile* up an easy goal that would have won us a game. You can not get any easier shot then running straight towards an open goal.
It was so bad it deserves its own meme

Worst part is he will probably get a repreive, now Moju and Dan will most likely be unavailable.

Yes the team collectively lost that match
When you play a mid sized forward who has 6 shots at goal and misses them all. A player so lacking in confidence he can not enough look at the goals when having a shot you start a man down
Lose a couple during the game to then the pressure on the rest of the team grows enormously
You can easily argue that George’s shot and smoother cost us the game or another time he shot for goal

Gotta say, pretty bold (and I’ll say probably not fair on George) by RFC to put the George birthday notifications out on the platforms this week…. I’m sure they could have predicted the responses

I think George was still a skill error. From behind the goals, watch the angle the ball comes off his boot.

Spot on....the endless spotlight on georges miss has been pathetic..short and grimes far stupider in those last few minutes
Graham and tarrant playin on when they shoulf of been icing the clock just as damagjng

I didn't see the game, was listening on the radio and you could even tell without pics that they were playing on. I was wondering why they kept playing on, just seemed ridiculous. Surely they have played enough games to know you waste time when the other team has the ascendancy, you have a small margin and the game is close to finished?

Can't work it out at all.

Yep, gets back to a professional team-first approach which involves discipline....knowing the right thing to do and doing it...everytime. That includes not giving away dumb free kicks with sloppy tackles, crude marking attempts, pushing in marking contests, etc. Someone said they don't matter bc we've won premierships with high free kicks against, but in those years we were the best in the AFL at winning the ball back at the next contest with a turnover but that's not happening now. Our best players are either injured or not as good in winning those crucial contests so we can't afford to give any teams easy possessions which can result in goals in the blink of an eye and a loss instead of a win. We must protect possession of the footy because the comp is too even this year.
