Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

One thing that's been really obvious in the other games over the weekend has been just how important basic football skills are to execute.
George was great when chaos was in vogue. Now he just creates chaos for us. He'd honestly be one of the least skilled players in the comp.
The game has shifted & we need to move on from George.

16 disposals, 6 score involvements, 2 contested marks, 2 goal assists (team high) suggests he is far from our worst.

Not saying he should or shouldn’t be playing (not sure where I stand to be honest) but it’s hard to see him not playing whilst we are as slow across the ground as we are. Think he’s regularly in the AFL’s fastest over 20m during games.

No tackles. No goals.
Pressure up forward is out. The AFL has removed almost every key element that helped George's game thrive.

Honestly don't understand why Hardwick has gone back to Aarts & Castagna when they were so ineffective offensivvely in 2021? I thought the penny had dropped towards the end of last season.
We need more skilled options up forward.

Rabbit in headlights stuff from George when having a set shot at goal. Would he continue to get a game with the top teams. Shows where we are at currently in the pecking order.

He's playing further up the ground so tackles and goals will drop while possessions will go up.

Thought he was pretty good first up and very good in the scratchies. Back to looking fit and strong.

He is very different to Aarts on a couple of fronts. He keeps his feet, far stronger over the ball, better second efforts and is good overhead. Miles better footballer.

The no tackles is largely because we went so bloody tall ILHO. More run needs to come into the team, not less.

With respect I watched the game again & he really has trouble up the ground exercising basic skills mate. We need better ball users in midfield roles.

Ideally yes, but with our current midfield/forward stocks George will continue to be a lock.

And whoever plays that role (looks to be similar role to Lablett), the pre requisite is the ability to run up and back all day.

The midfield and small forward cupboard is pretty bare. Very surprised if anyone in the two's could replace what George currently brings.

Parker maybe, but he's worse by foot than George.

We need Graham firing, McIntosh back for a start on that front.

Stack is the other one. Cant run all day but with his class can squeeze out a goal or 2 a game. Also allows Bolton to play midfield.

George had an absolute shocker.
9 disposals,1 tackle, 5 turnovers, 3 clangers, zero 1%ers, DE 44.4%. Not sure how many dropped marks and fumbles he had. Too bloody many.
One nice goal * I think he must have been trying to pass it  even Bolton chuckled.

Plenty of critics pan Aarts, McIntosh, Ralph-Smith and others but seemingly overlook this bloke. The luckiest 3 time premiership player ever.

I think he should turn the cartoon tattoo machine off for a while and work on how to catch the ball, handball and kick. You know, the basics that haven’t improved since he started playing. For all his experience and seniority…geezus
It took the MC most of last season to work out how poor he was playing, hopefully with some players returning and some youngsters building fitness and strength, the pressure is on

Yeah I thought the same.

We looked quick, and the forward line looked open, but time and time again George is flying against Lynch and Balta. He spoiled more marks than GWS defence.

He just showed zero awareness today.

He might kick 0.14 when we win grand finals by 20 goals, but when we need one late in a tight prelim or to seal a r2 undermanned victory, he never misses.

Captain Chaos? Pfft. The Iceman.

It was a set shot, wasnt it? Kicked it from outside 50.

Those stats aren't pretty but I didn't think he was that bad.

I've been harsh on him in the past but he was terrific last week so I reckon we persist.
