Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

I'll be happy if he just doesn't disappear for long segments of matches. He seems to me to go missing. Where does he hide? Had 11 Ps last week. Hayden Crozier who I admit I've never rated much, had 28 and was his opponent for at least large parts of the game. Daniels had 36! Johanissen 21. So much for applying intense pressure.

Yes, he had his best 2019 game previously with same Ps but 3 Gs, but career average is the same - 11Ps with one goal.

So my concerns: is this his ceiling? Is it enough?

Fans for all clubs constantly bemoan lack of talent in the 15-25 part of their list. The reality is the system is designed so nobody can have significantly more talent than any other club. So how do you best compete with other club’s 15-25 players? How do you get better value out of low-salary players than other clubs?

Play a specific role to an elite level.

How are most goals kicked in modern AFL? From opposition turnovers, capitalising on their disordered defence

Which role does George play? Forward pressure to create turnovers.

This makes George a better low salary player than other clubs’ low salary players
It therefore means our 15-25 type players are doing more specific things that create goals

This is why I’m a fan of our elite premiership role players, especially George who has been the most consistent. It’d be great if he can improve on his flaws, but I don’t think his worthiness of selection should be such a big talking point unless there’s clearly players going past him.

So you think he is doing those things ... to an elite level? Even though a low-salary player? (If so elite. Why?)

Or are you fanning the myth? The club have brought on Baker, switched Aarts onto the list and according to the HUN, are looking at another speedy SF from Coburg for the M/S draft. So, is the club so convinced? Butler has been demoted.

I think it means the club has identified a type of player that is undervalued by other clubs, allowing us to get them all cheap and keep them cheap

It should produce more value for us than the comparative speculative picks do for other clubs, so it’ll be a win

You dodged most of my points/questions, but most clubs have invested more in SFs e.g. Moggies cleared Menzel, now going with Atkins and Miers who are real pressure players. Or clubs invest in deeper range of midfielders, who are ball-winners that can go forward and do the same role.

George..went from omg to OMG!
Good game George. The good far outweighed the bad.
I dunno what it is with him, seems to lack some confidence and plays like a headless crook, then plays a passage where he's prepared to back himself, that the best would be happy with.
I think he's better playing on instinct with too much time to think. Maybe.
