Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

If he had a footy brain and decent disposal skills he'd be a top 10 small forward in the league. But he doesn't which doesn't get him top 100. Time for him to be replaced.

He must also be the worst exponent of the handball skill in the entire league. Overall his skills are deplorable.
His kicking trying to hit a target horrific. A couple last nite missed his target by over 20 yards

Irrespective of the growing injury list and number of out of form players, there is really no reason why Castagna should continue to hold his spot in the team. I would much prefer to see Baker, Ross and Bolton given their opportunities now.

George saved his career by competing hard in both air and on the deck, the fact was he didn’t have to get a lot of the ball didn’t matter he was doing his job, I feel we need more now, simply we need class in the forward line and George will never be able to provide that, the only way I see him continuing on is if we can’t find better small forwards or he is reinvented as a run with player.

Gets plenty of the ball just butchers it
OST is the game last year against GWS misijng easy set shots

Averages 11 touches a game, wouldn’t say that’s getting plenty of it

I know this is out of left field but maybe the coaching staff should direct him to kick points, if he is aiming at the points he will miss them and go through the goals. :spin :spin :spin

He was doing this when he was ‘flying..’
Most unreliable he is..

Castagna has always been a liability. We could afford to carry him when the rest of the forward line was firing and we were wining matches. We could compensate and off set his constant stuff ups. Now we can't, we're not playing well enough and we are not winning matches. This is what is going to kill his career in the end. If we aren't contending he can't play for us (and no other club that isn't vying for the top four) and I can't imagine any top flight club whose game plan is based on skilful movement of the ball touching him with a ten foot pole. It's Richmond or bust for Castagna, he really should have spent the summer at home paying a skills coach out of his own pocket rather than touring Europe.

Must be dropped for Baker.

His lack of composure is a killer. For comparison, have a look at Bakers goal in the last seconds of JLT 2 (?). The composure of Baker was at the polar opposite of Castagna. And Baker has much more upside.

Ive had enough of his momentum killing misses, brain explosions and shithouse disposal in general.

He goes out for Baker or Bolton for mine.

Had 19 on Saturday. Was involved, even attended a centre bounce or two, just bungly, like plenty of his mates. Still building match fitness. Given our two best mids are out, our pressure game will be even more important. I predict both he and Butler will stay in the side, this week at least. Butler in greater danger.

Same. We do not need to bring in more inexperience, and doubt the two above will be dropped, especially George.

Once he gets his fitness up again the pressure will be back, unfortunately he is unlikely to ever have composure.

I have no doubt he’ll still be in this week, pretty sure Butler will be too, however I see more talent in the kids coming through and I’d rather be seeing them get games in front of these 2.

I dunno, Jazzy. He kicked the same number of goals last year as 2017, in three fewer games. He had more goal assists and fewer clangers. He's 22. I agree he will never be Nick Dal Santo, but he can still improve. The point he kicked from a snap early in the match was a perfect example - didn't take the time to hold the ball correctly, because he's rushed. Match time improves that stuff and we see him control the ball and snap brilliantly a la The Moment I Knew We Were Premiers goal.

I agree, the likes of Bolton, Naish and Ross are more talented. But Bolton and Ross are midfielders, Naish is a back flanker/winger. Bolton is the only one with the speed to match George.

Ferocity is the key word this week if we're to have any chance.

Funny thing is spook I don’t think Butler or Castagna are forwards either , they’ve done a very good job of there roles , but they just ain’t very good “footballers” imho

They are limited but they have excelled at their roles, and their roles are important this week in particular.

It may come that when Dusty, Chimp and Jack are back our priorities change and we replace one or both with a more polished finisher (in George's case), or one who gets his hands dirty (in Buts' case - he's a good finisher).

Funny thing is he is generally much better on the snaps than the set shot in front. But I could not believe the way he held that ball when lining up. It was the wrong angle, surely he has practiced enough over the years to at least hold it right

I agree he can improve with more experience. He should be cherry ripe this week.
