Welcome to Tiger land Riley Collier’Dawkins

Updated stats - 15 disposals and 13 tackles. Lauded for undertaking the defensive role he was given.
This is an acceptable game. Its actually is super super positive, that shows effort. First up that’s super.

Can he back it up with 20 plus touches? Let’s hope so. But to show this effort at VFL level is huge. Mental application.

I bought a lot of stock in the off season. I’m holding my stock. And feeling good.

This isnt just effort. Its focus.

I'm reading into it that the Club has asked Riley to improve defensive efforts.
"Forget about the ball son, just run and tackle and harass.
We'll count your tackles at the end of the game"

So in Dyer'ere's words, he is coachable. At last.

Next week is more tackles. And the week after. Until its second nature.

We know he can extract, we know he can break out of a pack.
Can he be selfless?
Can he give his game to the team?

Lets see his answer at the end of April.

Riley Collier-Dawkins (15 disposals, 13 tackles four inside-50s, three clearances, one goal)

"Huge improvement in his defence on the weekend with 13 tackles. It was a great starting point to put in a really solid performance on the weekend."

Starting point. Minimum standard. Come on Riley back it up this week

13 tackles is a massive effort, now we just need to get Fish or Nank to teach him how to tackle with intent.

I'm always a little dubious regarding tackle numbers being portrayed in an overly positive light. Does it show defensive intent? Absolutely, but it also shows you were second to the ball or the contest. The coaches would undoubtedly know more than me and I assume that they're teaching him a lesson here, but I'll get a little more excited when he starts picking up 25+ disposals a game.

I'd normally agree STK, though this time I think its the coaches direction.
Especially as HK posted separately about his defensive running.
We aint looking to win VFL games

Further, the tackles they assign to a player as a stat are more often nowadays an ineffective or meaningless tackle. Non impact ones are being added to the stats sheet.

Last year I was looking at the stats of Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera in a Glenelg reserves game. I had watched the game earlier and the stats sheet said he had 7 tackles. I thought "that's bs" so I went back and watched the game again, focusing on him the entire way. He had 3 legitimate tackles. The other 4 were things like the oppo players breaking the tackle (i.e. nothing more than an attempt) or, he would jump on top of a player on the ground who had already been held up in a tackle by one of his team mates (ie. double teaming after the event.)

Tackle stats are VERY dubious.

Yep, it's a lot more prone to funny buggers at lower levels. One of my best mates used to call the stats for Richmond VFL. Certain players, one in particular who shared a name with a biscuit company, would always argue the toss regarding their stats post match.

Just wondering as to how many of our players regularly get to 25+ disposals per game over recent years?? Young bloke gets to 15 possessions during a game n backs it with 13 tackles ( even if half of them are almost tackles ) shows to me he's working hard both ways. Pretty sure that's something our coach has always insisted upon from the players. Except for Dusty of course, he's permitted to simply be Dusty *smile* awesome most of the time n only work both ways if he feels the need.

Rowbottom(25) , Sparrow(27)

are the only 2 that have shown signs or in Rowbottom's case done anything worth wile

He will get 20 touches 8 tackles and 10 clearances and kick 3.1
He didn't.

Sparrow is a premiership player. Jordon was 23rd man in a premiership team. McInerney is killing it. Taylor plays every week. O'Halloran is getting a game. Bobby Hill is still teasing but averages nearly a goal a game, so about George/D.Rioli level for scoreboard impact. (Hill was the one FJ loved, while Clarke was all about RCD.)

I'm not a hater but others after him are going okay, we can say that.

Yes, it's all very well to look at his stats, read the "focus on defensive stuff" line and think he's gone okay. But if you actually watched the game I'd be surprised if you weren't disappointed.

Ribs. Covid. Tackle focus. We don't know. 15 touches, not many of them at clearance despite spending all day there. We do know that. He gets another game this week. Tackle and get the ball, please Riley. That's the job.
