Welcome to the Tigers Oleg Markov

Needs a good run at it , has more tricks than broad , hope he gets a chance and grabs it by the horns

Markov aint replacing Broad, can Markov roll off at a pinch and Play on KPP no he cant can Broad yes.

Can Broad run up the ground as well as if not better than Markov yes he can.

Broad is a stronger contested player than Markov and is versatile.

Oh an a Premiership player with runs on the board.

Markov .............. what has he done.

If people want done nothing Oleg in the side then he will replace, Short, Grigg, Houli or Grover.

Markov is a wingman more than anything else and hes not going to replace an important member of a premiership defence.

If he goes to HBF its to replace Short who is a poor defender or an aging Bashar.

I spent the end of 2017 and all of last season trying to educate people here that Broad wasnt in competition with Short for a spot.

Broad is an incumbant for a reason, the very same reason that the defence became a strength and was better with Nathan it. He was targeted for a particular reason to be in the side and it worked.

The side didnt play well with Houli and Short in it imo it missed something be it Butlers run and pressure or Towners pressure with Jayden and Houli both in the side we actually lost some of that.

Thought Broad went backwards a bit in 2018 compared to 2017. Wasn't as confident and raw stats show he was well done on running type stats such as I50s, R50s, marks and disposals. Maybe he was just playing a more traditional key position role. Yeah can't see Markov as his replacement, probably more competition from Garthwaite, Miller, Balta, some have mentioned Moore playing back. Didn't realise he starts next season as a 26yo.

Spot on, craig. Oleg ain't replacing Broad, he's gotta aim for Short's spot or wait for Houli to retire/fade away.

Oleg needs to aim for Houli's spot and Houli wont give it up easily but his body might with soft tissue's kicking in after 30

Oleg is a wingman, not a defender so any talk of him replacing Broad is misplaced.
Said this weeks ago and have no reason to change my mind even though I want to see Oleg replacing one of our aging or less talented players in the side

I can see Markov coming into the back 7 an not necessarily replacing any particular player I.e Broad or Short , our back half is unique in that just about all of them can play on different types of players , our one weakness in the back half is probably lack of run and carry and that’s something Markov potentially can offer. The back half has had a fairly good run with injuries and I think there’s little doubt there will be form an injuries that will open up an opportunity for a player like Markov, wether he is good enough will be in his hands, however I’m sure he will get an opportunity

Good thoughts.

And agree with previous posters that he will not replace Broad, very different players. It's Houli/Short that Markov is the natural replacement for, or they throw him on a wing if Grigg/Macintosh are battling

Oleg is on fire this pre season from what we have been seeing and reading

Would be a great replacement for Houli if he can cement his place , Love his height and run as well as never give up attitude

If he is putting pressure on anyone's spot it'll most likely be McIntosh & BEllis. Defensive wingers.

agree. if he replaces Broad it wont be a like for like, but we dont have a like for like replacement for Broad. I like him, and hope his form, and health, warrants staying in the team, but if he does miss, we still have Rance, Astbury (or Garthwaite if one is out) plus Grimes to play as 3 talls. They can match any forwardline. Broad does give us great flexibility but that alone wont guarantee him a game.
Likewise Markov wont provide as much run as Short, or Houli, but will be better defensively. Ideally he will build his rebounding (which has potential) so he can replace Short or Houli, while adding better defensive skills, and even more flexibility.

Reckon Oleg provides plenty of run, as to Shorty and Houli but think he would be best in Bobble's role, or Kmac next.

Big upside for Oleg and the team if he keeps the improvement happening.

Oleg will be better defensively in 1-2 years as well as give more run than he does now but is a totally different player to Jayden Short and there is a place in the team for both
Its going to be Bachar Houli & Brandon Ellis that will be under the pump to hold their spots in the team.

Fair enough Turk.

IMO Markov provides plenty of run and dash but is miles behind Broad one on one. His liability in this area aligns him more to Short's role and perhaps BEllis. Can't see him replacing Houli until Houli retires.

I'm a fan though so hope he plays plenty.

I'm not a fanboy. A waste of a list place.

Nah - after 40+ years as a tiger supporter I reckon I've seen enough to know a waste of a list space. Hell for a lot of that time after you ticked off the first ten players you could call the rest a waste of a list.

Has the best mo seen in decades - if for not other reason...

In all seriousness club has put a lot of contractual faith in Markov - implies that he will keep improving. Needs to of course, hasn't got any credits in the bank as yet. 2019 will be an interesting year for Markov.

Bellis is my biggest concern. Houlli may be over his peak! Short is a better option now in my eyes.

prelim final has rattled some cages. Broad and shorty have played enough good footy I reckon. Not worried about either. In fact, I think they will be very good footballers for us, for a long time. Plenty of respect between these four walls.

Needs to step up and have a run at it without interruption. Reckon he has the ability and a trick or two more than a couple in broad and Ellis that stand in his way , time will tell , good luck

Nothing about his game or stature that moves Broad out.

Might want to look at Ellis, who is currently not in the best 22 going by last September or Houli, Grigg, Grover or Short.

Like most fringe players injury is his opportunity. He fills in and shows something and maybe gets a few more games... or he doesn't. In saying that the vulnerable bottom six have all shuffled down one to let Uncle Tom into the side.

Higgins was a week to week proposition last year and kudos to him for the number of games he earned. I don't see a Higgins in our draftees this year. C-D will take a while and ready to go players like Jack Ross and Mav Weller aren't a step up on Markov.
