Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

geez what is wrong with Robinson?
you'd think after his health scare he might've learned some humility
he kind of undoes his own blither when typing that Impey "cannons into the raised elbow of Lynch"
- meaning Impey ran into Toms arm rather than Tom swinging it as an act of aggression
you'd think Robinson would understand something of the basic principles of football - like protecting possession of the ball ...
Good god he is still at it.
Full page on it today in the inside back page of the HS.
He is trying his best to have the AFL look at this "incident"
Of course we play his vanilla team this weekend and would he just love to have TL rubbed out.
He seems to have an inbred hatred of anything Richmond.
About time, someone from the Tigers called him out over this.
have a look at his comments today.

AFL 2022: Mark Robinson says Richmond’s Tom Lynch deserved a suspension for hit on Jarman Impey

If the AFL is serious about cracking down on head-high knocks, then the league had to treat Tom Lynch in the same way that it treats Toby Greene, writes Mark Robinson.

Started to read it but then decided it not worth the frustration of trying to apply logic and reason in any sort of response.
Easier to just ignore and pretend this clown doesn’t exist (same as I do with his Foxtel footy shows)

I know what he means, that was old school footy. He doesn't need to plough the guy now, he just needs to get in his path.
You mean the type of footy that is played in September? Where intensity and effort matters?

So are we now going to ask guys to go hard but not too hard?

You are asking a lot of players who are operating at the threshold of their physical capacity for most of the game.

They train and sacrifice for years for the opportunity, most are naturally ultra competitive types. They have to fight and scrap just to get there.

Don't show emotion, don't run too fast into someone.....all in split second moments.

I thought at the time that Marlion would go. Any time you run past the ball and bump someone, you will be suspended.

I was chatting with a workmate this morning and he mentioned that his 19 year old son was concussed in a similar incident yesterday where an opponent ran past the ball and took him out. The kid didn’t see it coming and threw up twice last night. Probably won’t play now for several weeks.

It is unnecessary.
He was sheperding. You have to take the action in context. He didn't run past the ball at all, you make out like he lined him up. He identifid his teammate was getting there first and protected him.

The funny thing about old school footy is every x-Essendon player and media pundit is abusing the Essendon players for their lack of effort. They are being called soft. They should be more physical. They are being encouraged to take a stand. The line in the sand quote has come out. ie nothing is out of bounds. What sort of message does this send to the Essendon playing group? What are they meant to do Sat night?

Well, they're playing Richmond so they'll have license to go headhunting while crumpling for frees themselves, which they will get, in front of goal.

Did he think this after a similar incident with Bayley Fritsch and Tom Powell? Didn't think so.

I don't think Dylan will be in the first headhunting party going out on Saturday night, he will remember a certain No. 9 at RFC.

No, I guess the good thing is it's Essington, they don't really have any 'dog' players. Very nice boys. Draper might try to maim a couple but that's about it.

For those that predicted the "outrage" by Robinson re Lynch then read and be not surprised.
He seems to have a real hatred of anything Richmond.

Strange then that at the weekend, Richmond’s Tom Lynch escaped a penalty for raising an elbow into the face of Hawthorn’s Jarman Impey.

The AFL MRO assessed the incident as: “Lynch takes possession of the loose ball on the wing. Impey approaches to tackle from side on and high contact is made by Lynch on Impey. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that Lynch’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.’’

So, the MRO is saying it’s not unreasonable to elbow an approaching player in the face if it’s a fend. That is mystifying.

Greene cops Toby Tax and Lynch walks free.

Try to assess the incident from Impey’s angle — he’s running in, knowing he can get to Lynch to tackle him legally and in the next moment, he cannons into the raised elbow of Lynch, has his eye opened up and has to leave the field.

But it wasn’t unreasonable, said the AFL.

The AFL pats itself on the back for all the work it does on concussion research and CTE — a brain disease that has played a part in ex-players taking their own lives — and making the head sacrosanct.

Yet, Lynch was able to use the elbow, one of the most unforgiving weapons used to injure a player, and the AFL says, “play on”.

Where was his outrage when Hogan did it last week??

They have a Merrett playing for them but luckily it's not Roger. He was a dog, I can remember Merrett dropping his knees into Roachys back while Roach was lying on the ground. Forever after that Roach had problems with his back.

That wasn't a split second moment, he had him lined up from 10 metres away and had plenty of time to consider his action.

His mistake was ploughing the guy, I love a bump but that's the game now. If you crash into someone away from the ball and get anywhere near their head then you are stuffed.

He needed to get over to him and just take his path, same result on creating space for his team mate and everyone lives to fight another day. For better or worse, that's footy now.

BR love what you bring to PRE but Pickett was within 5 m when he moved towards Moore and looking at the footage, the whole incident from change of direction to impact is about 2 seconds. Timing and momentum were perfect, combining to produce a whiplash type effect. It is not clear at all that Pickett hit the head and the fact that the guy got up would suggest that the head was not touched.

Very similar biomechanics to the geel player hit on Higgins. Timing and momentum.

Terrible optics by the mrp to suspend one but not the other.

Let's all just wait for tonight's decision before making decisions about the state of footy!

Personally, I have always thought incidents like this were legitimate football incidents PROVIDED the ball was within FIVE metres. It is arguable that Pickett was trying to shepherd for his teammate who was probably about a metre away at the time.

It was definitely inside five metres in this case. The player was “live” and in a position where he may be able to pressure the ball carrier.

I don’t think Marion made much, if any contact with the head either. It was more that the force of the contact rattled the opponent.

Given everything we now know about concussion, the distance from the ball is now probably redundant though. It was a bone-rattling hit and had the potential to do a lot of damage. Just take the week and move on. Marlon certainly plays right on the edge.

he didnt "plough" him tho. He hit him hard enough to knock him over, but not so hard he couldnt get straight back up. he didnt hit his head (IMO) and he didnt cause concussion.
if bumping is still allowed, Pickett executed the perfect example.
