Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

Not saying Pickett should have got a week. But yeah probably some elbow to head. Staging? Moore went down like bags of spuds. Marls can do that. We know the MRP is an inconsistent farce.
Imo if he hits him with an elbow... he ain't getting up and surely there's a mark on him.
As they are instructed to do, he was taken off and went for a concussion test.
There's footage of him on the bench soon after... not a mark on him and obviously he was cleared to play on.
Just listening to Bucks who saw it live and at the time called it a bump and if he makes no contact with the head, suggested like I have that it may be a whiplash action.
I'm 100% we appeal..!

Edit: Buckley with encouragement from Lyon has recanted. ... says he got him with a shoulder! LawyerUp(Better Call Saul)!

Marlion and mansell get treated poorly by the umpires.

Not happy at all if Marlion is stood down for this round but…. if he is then Stack must be brought into the team. No better motivation needed for him to perform. And he also delivers a perfect hip and shoulder as well!

They need to appeal. A Shepard is not rough conduct. Its not just for Marlion. Its for the common sense of the game.

I thought lynch would be suspended and Marlion wouldn't be looked at.

Must appeal.

If the bump hit his head then the rules say a week. Given CTE risk then this is fair.

If the bump didn’t hit the head then surely nothing to answer.

The bump didn’t hit the head.

If we are banning bumps that cause whiplash then you can’t cause any contact anywhere on the ground the causes a players’ momentum to stop when they aren’t ready for it and that is the death of AFL as a contact sport.

Pity AFL fans are so apathetic , we should show some noisy show of support at a pre determined time...
Like they do at epl games sometimes..

Am i right if appeal fails no extra penalty? so nothing to lose...

Yes, I believe it's a free hit to challenge.

In a car accident when the seatbelt stops you your head moves. There is no primary contact with the head.

I’m pretty sure Michael Christian doesn’t understand physics though.

Pickett went low and stopped the hawthorn players’ body much like a seatbelt would do. This resulted in the head jerking like it did because the body was stopped but the head was free to move so first it goes forward a bit then whiplashes back because he didn’t do hard enough to fully decapitate him in “the boys” superhero style. (IMHO).

Saddest part for me ( besides it been Dreamtime) is that was a brilliant bit of team play, Pickett summed up the situation perfectly that Bakes was in the better position to take possession and move forward , so he simply did the best action in creating space for his teammate.

In years to come the game may well be a much safer and better spectacle for the fans , however for so many long time lovers of the game it is now a confusing, over umpired, softer ( not the players) very very distant version of “ footy”
Yes, really agree. Pickett's strong shepherd created the opportunity for the goal for us that Jack scored.

Is the AFL's intention to gradually transform the game into AFLX - by default - punishing body contact out of the game?

If he misses the Dreamtime game because of suspension, I say wear the jumper again for the match against the Swans.

Yep.. Surely we've got some well healed biomechanist on speed dial we can call upon to baffle the tribunal!

Christian's actually left it fairly easy for us to challenge this.

He went with Careless conduct, high contact and medium impact.
He could have easily gone with Intentional, high contact and low impact.

I believe both end up with 1 match suspensions but based on previous incidents (someone above posted Selwood - low impact), I would think we have a fair chance of turning around the medium impact down to low (and then a fine), rather than intentional down to careless (as he clearly engaged the contact - whilst not attempting to hit his head).

I reckon knowing this, its a no brainer to appeal, as I reckon we are a good chance to reduce that to low impact bearing in mind the Hawthorn player played the game out. I doubt the Hawks doctors would try and screw us over this.

Yeh, it was exactly what you want a "teammate" to do. It was brilliant. And fair. The commentators barely noted it. To his credit Moore picked himself up and tried to get on with it. It's a contact sport that requires all types of courage to play, but they are slowly eroding it's best features.

Great post. It's very similar to the Young/Zuurhar scenario. You shouldn't be penalised for hitting hard to the body. Its not his fault he hits like a sledgehammer.

Unfortunately the AFL previously changed the guidelines so that any impact to the head is automatically classified as at least medium, regardless of force.

So unless we can make a case for the contact to not be the head, he has no chance of getting off.
