Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Not so sure. Our selling point for Hopper would be contract length. Money wise it might be less than Taranto but not contract length.

Dont forget we are competing here with Geelong. We will need a point of difference. Contract security is where we will win out. Its a risk but to get contracted players out of their existing club plus fight off the competition, its a necessary evil.

I'd be surprised if its longer than 5 for Hopper. Maybe this is why its 7 for Taranto. Maybe those last 2 years are weighted heavier?

And I still find it interesting that Hopper would entertain a conversation with the RFC.
for all intent and purposes he was going to Geelong, they had done the ground Work…..apparently.
there was an expectation in the air.
someone or something has suggested that Hopper have a chat with Damien.
maybe it’s just the routine process but I’d say the RFC wouldn’t have thrown their hat into the ring if Geelong was the certainty that was suggested.

I know what Taranto looks like as a player - but how similar is Hopper? Should we only take one and look at ways of getting a KP forward through the door instead?
Our club seems to plan really well these days but I have thought that as well.

I wonder if there are any free agent key forwards eligible at the end of 2023? Similar to how we got Lynch

I can just see the Gestapo getting involved as we have former assistant coach Kingsley who now is the GWS coach probably accused of player trafficking. SHocking might be the instigator considering Hopper's supposed to go to the Pussies.

We need to remember that both Tarantula and Hoopsman are no longer required players at GWS - if they were they wouldn’t be openly shopping themselves around.

Its in GWS best interest that they be moved on - so that will bring down their price a little as we are taking on their salary as well.

We won’t get them for nothing nor will we pay top dollar either - I can see 3 picks under 30 this year getting the job done.

Geesook cats won’t have anything better to trade with.

Could happen, I hope it does, but can't see it. If a couple of those under 30 picks were a bit higher, say 8 and 14 rather than 12 and 19, yeah. Will be another pick under 36 or a player on top. Possibly both.

All things being equal, IMO TT is worth a top 5 pick, Hopper a top 10. No side who was in the market would hesitate.

Hopper meeting Salty for the first time put the kibosh on the Scats chances of getting Hopper.

5 years at a minimum.

Its been all media speculation. Until recently the media had Taranto going to Collingwood.

History suggests when there are strong talks around Richmond targeting a player - we get them. These things are planned out well in advance.

Geelong has nothing to sook about the *smile*.

They chose to pick swap for Tom Atkins, and its worked out for them anyway as he is their Taranto/Hopper.

*smile* em.

Basically if Hopper doesn't do a Tarranto by the end of next week, he is going to Geelong.

Tarranto trade will be the easy one as he is out of contract. Pick 13 plus pick 30. Or a swap of future picks.

Hopper a little more trickier because he is contracted. It will be our next years first round pick and possibly a player. Pick 19 might be involved with the later picks coming back our way.
Hopper,Taranto can't be kept, it's not a option as gws millions above cap for 2023,they can't stay without 2 like for likes going.

Maybe head to the Giants again for Himmelberg? Mackay would be great but probably a pipedream

Just not sure we would have a heap of cap space to bring them in next year. I suppose we might, as I think we will have more retirements next year, probably Tarrant, Grimes, Cotch and Jack.

I think we have Bolton out of contract at the end of next year ? He is going to cost a bit.

Key forwards are a worry for the future

Let's fixs one area at a time, now it;s the centre mids, (land these two would definitely improve), rest of picks in forwards and next year.

Shed and Lambert have retired, Cotchin has got one more year in him, a couple of mids is a real need.

Getting Taranto and Hopper would set us up for a few years, they are very close mates, a smart move by the club trying to get them both at the same time.
