Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

I can clearly see your viewpoint Mr Poshman. It is one shared by many astute Tigers supporters.

We'll agree to disagree.

Daniel has been a favourite of mine since he started. I just feel deprived of watching him consistently around the goals. His quick thinking and composure makes an old forward's heart skip a beat. I can take or leave watching half backs running into space.
I'm also convinced that it is best for the team if he is forward.
Anyway, the good news is that you will no doubt enjoy the rest of his career as much as I enjoyed the first half of it. :)

You didn't enjoy his 2nd place finish in the best and fairest last year? He'd have to be in the top 5 so far this year again. Reckon it's been a master stroke moving him back, and even then he's still getting goals and scoring assists.

Hope he is ok.
Although he played on, he was hampered whenever he put the pedal down to get to a contest (which was often) in 2nd half.

Fingers crossed.
He would (enter Plough-ism here) if he were to miss Dreamtime.

No more than Shorty’s b and f. Anyway each to their own. As I have said, I respect the opinions against mine about this. Opinions are like bums. Everyone has one.

Is anybody in the AFL cleaner at full pace ? Be it off the ground or to receive ? Pretty good kick at full tilt too.

He’s the formula one DRS in our team.
At the level : Bakes (as Posh posted)
And Cotch once a time when he could hit full pace.

The Prince ruled his kingdom, the MCG, on Friday night.
But it was against lesser opponents, the kittycats.
The top teams who know things will rate him and put time into limiting his bursts.
Its where Broad was important. Rioli could launch knowing he had solid coverage

Ps in the 1st quarter didnt he have 2 runs where he had multiple touches? It kept bouncing back to him like he was running the show.
Do we train that drill?

Is it twelve months since he went back? Is The Prince now the best defender in the AFL?

I'm not sure. Give it another month.

Have to be one of the best rebounding defenders who is now starting to impact on the scoreboard.

Him and Baker Boy have a pretty good understanding.

Love Baker Boy back.

Yeh, Peter Matera is the benchmark of elite disposal at full pace. Rioli the modern day version.

Should be a cert for AA this year except for the fact the Jumper he's wearing.

You know they've give it to Saad though.

I've watched him a few times this year and he only does 2 things with the ball. Takes the kick out, long kick down the line to a contest (treated as an efficient disposal) or a short 15m kick to the next defender / midfielder in line. He rarely takes the game on like Daniel does.

Yes. It's the biggest single set of drills we do. There are at least three different drills that focus on ground length, repeat effort runs.

And my take is that when Sam Banks builds a little more he will be the Daniel clone.

So confident these days. Even more tricks than we thought he had!

The prince

All hail the prince

Love him, always brings a smile to my face

When I saw his age as 26 on TV, I thought they made a mistake. They didn't. Still remember him as a kid.

Spot on. He's got hurt. SI is the other big measure for rebounding backs, waiting.

Daniel Rioli gets beat sometimes in contest. But he's not looking to halve them. He wins them resoundingly when hopelessly out of position. In the air. On the ground. Added to his rebound this is the talent that will make him the best defender in the AFL. If he's not already.

The path? People talk about McLeod and Matera. Rioli is on an Akermanis path. And may have to go on ball eventually. For now he can bloom at half back.

He has been getting a hard tag at HBF. Once he learns to shake them he can go right on with it.

I reckon Baker is cleaner. I've not seen a footballer who is better at taking the ball at full tilt at absurd angles and then shooting it out or kicking than Baker.

But I've not seen a footballer who is cleaner at disposing at full tilt than Rioli. His top speed is obviously more than Bakers. When he receives a handball or hits the contest he is already going at full pace.

The mix and points of difference between Baker, Rioli, and Short could not be more complimentary to each other weaknesses.
