Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Is anybody in the AFL cleaner at full pace ? Be it off the ground or to receive ? Pretty good kick at full tilt too.

He’s the formula one DRS in our team.

We've got Baker & Short who can play back & are screaming for small forwards who can actually kick goals....I don't want him burning out in Dimma's sweat shop but this guy is staring us in the face. Pressure out skill in.
And last night proved you exactly right. Daniel was the architect of last night’s win. Opposing coaches must love it when he is away from the goals. His forward work until injured was sublime.

Arguably our most skilled player. Going from strength to strength. Another great game Daniel

Bakes gives him a run for his money. How goods it having 2 of them coming out of our backline.

Dude, he played in the backline. He just breaks forward from there.
Regardless of where he is on paper. When he is physically forward of centre and around the goals we suddenly look dangerous and he brings others into the game. Watch the first quarter again and keep your focus on Daniel's creativity and poise. He set up the win NOT from the backline.
He can play Half back flank but probably so could you.

He gets into those positions BECAUSE he is playing off the HBF. If he was playing with his back to goal, he can't impact in the same way.

Forgotten his role in three flags already? That's a shame, because he was very, very good.

Not forgotten it at all, but he impacts the game so much more now than he did then. He's been great in both role, but he's better behind the ball where he can use his running power to break the game open.

I can clearly see your viewpoint Mr Poshman. It is one shared by many astute Tigers supporters.

We'll agree to disagree.

Daniel has been a favourite of mine since he started. I just feel deprived of watching him consistently around the goals. His quick thinking and composure makes an old forward's heart skip a beat. I can take or leave watching half backs running into space.
I'm also convinced that it is best for the team if he is forward.
Anyway, the good news is that you will no doubt enjoy the rest of his career as much as I enjoyed the first half of it. :)

Only problem with Sausage playing forward was that he ended up stagnant, limp and dropped from the side. Dimma took him out the back n decided to set the Sausage free and he's chubbed up brilliantly ever since.
Coaching masterstroke.

There's this myth that The Prince, Daniel Rioli, is an elite small forward and if only we would put him back there our woes would be solved.

No.

Cyril Rioli. Eddie Betts. Tom Papley. Charlie Cameron. Kozi Pickett. These are elite small forwards. Rankine and Rachele are getting there. Papley has kicked more goals in every season of his career than Daniel's career-best 25 from 25 games in 2017. Cameron has topped 50 three times and has already kicked more goals this year than Daniel's best season. Pickett has topped 40 in each of his two complete seasons.

The Prince is a blue collar aristocrat. As a forward he averaged less than a goal a game. Only once did he kick more than 17 in a season. Mansell has 6 already.

The Prince played the thankless role of chasing and harassing, even more so than George did. Butler was the finisher. It wore him out, ground him down. He was done, a shadow of himself. Reinvented at half-back, he is a hard-edged toff critical to our turnover game.

I am not comparing Mansell to The Prince (new nick for Nige: The Pauper). But let Mansell do the thankless stuff and scrap the meagre rewards. The Prince has found his Kingdom and is Lord of His Domain. Long may He reign.

Look at what Nick Daicos can do from a back flank, it’s now a must to have a weapon in that role. Daniel is ours.

Credit to Dimma, the mix between Short, Baker and Rioli is working. Each has a role that suits them and keeps them hurting the other mob with their best skill. Dimma mentioned they had spoke about spinning the magnet and putting him forward but resisted. Holding the line is a test of belief in strategy. Dimma passed the test when it would’ve been easy to do something. Something I suggested as well. I’m not a coach. Clearly.

Thought Daniel showed serious grit getting a knock and coming back out and providing run. And did he talk some junk to the Tom-a-pork? The Pork wanted to snap him. That’s the final step of being a small running back, having the big guys want to smash you into a powder form for being a smartarse.
