Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

groin. $5 post season he has it looked at is my call... They are banking his handful of touches hit the scoreboard. I think its physical but banking he gets through games. A few sprint efforts I observe but no way known is he the same on the park as per previous seasons

He’s fully fit. We aren’t risking a long term groin injury in exchange for the horrific form he’s in.

Rioli since the season restart

Average disposals: 6.5
Average tackles: 1.5
Average goals: 0.2

Bolton since the season restart:

Average disposals: 11.0
Average tackles: 3.25
Average goals: 1.2

Both players have been dropped the same amount of times this season.

I’d nearly say it’s unfair to compare the two as Bolton has played midfield, so of course he averages more disposals.

But Rioli played forward much more, yet has kicked just 1 goal in total since the restart.

Castagna since the restart :

Average disposals: 10.8
Average tackles: 2
Average goals: 0.8

Not much different. And hasn't been dropped.

There has been whispers that hes been struggling with the current Corona Climate and associated disruption.

Stack also.
So what was his excuse for last season then? Anticipating corona??

If Rioli was putting out the same numbers you quoted for Castagna this would all be a non-issue.

I’m not a huge fan of Castagna, but I’d argue nearly double the disposal output and quadruple the goal output is pretty different? Understand the numbers are small, but I would have guessed George is twice as involved in games than Rioli purely for what I see as a pleb watching on TV. I’d say George’s numbers back that up don’t they?

You say nearly double, and quadruple, but when you're talking tiny numbers, that sounds like more than it is. Rioli is getting roasted here for lack of effort /run /whatever. George is contributing half a tackle more than him in a game.

George has kicked 4 goals since the restart, Rioli has one. Rioli could make up that difference by the end of the week.

Neither of them are getting their hands on it. Whether that's 6 or 10 touches a game doesn't really make a difference. (FWIW I would rather Castagna had four less touches in a game).

I did say they were small numbers.

They’re small numbers, but even still, Rioli is getting much smaller numbers and I think it accurately reflects the difference between Rioli and Castagna at the moment.

If Rioli was kicking one a week, and getting 10 touches I think we’d all be happy with that. Those numbers for George, are actually very similar to Daniels career averages (which are D 11.2, G 0.8, T 3.0) which is what we’ve always accepted in the past.

Issue is, Riolis output is way off, and the numbers prove it. We shouldn’t be giving him free passes week after week.

In regards to George, I agree and I’d absolutely love to replace him, but I’ve accepted him for what he is. If he was playing poorly and his stats did the same as Riolis, I’d absolutely want him out

I really haven't enjoyed Rioli's return. Looks like he's labouring. My advice to him would be to "DO son DO, DONT JUST STAND THERE! DOOOOOOOOO!!!"

I really enjoyed Bolton's return. Tenacious. The best defensive effort I've seen from him and electric with the ball in hand. Izak Rankine is a boomer, will be great to see him over the next decade but IMHO Bolton is about to light up the competition!

Yeah you say we'd accept that. Except he was bagged here all of last year as well.

Rioli's an easy target here, and honestly, If we had anyone who could replace him, on current form he might be replaced. But that goes for a number of our players, including PRE favourite Jason Castagna too.

you’re actually right, because I personally would still be unhappy with 10 touches, and a goal a game. Cant speak for everyone else though.

I’m harder on Rioli than I would be Castagna because it shouldn’t be open to debate who is the better player. Castagna is as good as he’ll ever be, but Rioli has the talent to be much much better. If Rioli finished up tomorrow he was an average small forward role player that played in a great team.

I’d be extremely disappointed if this is as good as he gets.

I have no real favorite between the two , and ignoring stats for a sec , I seem to have more of george running around on my TV screen as well , and i think that has what has influenced me to think he is playing better , just simply noticing him more

George is more involved in the games - for better or worse - but both of them need to improve

Whilst i agree Rioli is a shadow of his former self, at his best when he was making 3 or 4 repeated efforts, he was the best defensive forward for us in 20 years

At his lowest ebb since joining the club. George no better. They are both experienced players but they seem
lost not knowing where to run or what to expect. They have been getting plenty of help from the midfield with fast kicks in, but they were just not there tonight against the worst team we have met this year. Along with Caddy one of the two will not be on the flight to Sydney.
Absent Cotch, in Collier-Dawkins and Dow.

George was fine, played well on the wing/back
