Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

The headline was ' A Magpies Defender Has Put The Clamps On Daniel Rioli In Recent Times'

The defender he is referring to is Maynard. Apparently Maynard was playing on Rioli for 28 minutes and during that time kept him to 1 disposal.
1 disposal but 3 taps, 5 knock ons, 1 smother, 2 tackles, 7 chase down pressures...
Just 1 kick but many score involvements:gotiges

Betts/Milne/ lecrea/ Naish types come around once in a generation.
Rioli might not match them in goals but i bet he smashes them in tackles and pressure acts.
He suits our game style.
Nothing people say about him will ever change my opinion on him.
He is a star in my eyes....

Yeah I agree, and that is where I like Rioli because he perfectly suits our gamestyle to a tee.

Not to mention opposition players *smile* themselves whenever he’s in their vicinity.
Causes turnovers that helps our finishers kick their goals.
Invaluable.
Goals are the cherry on top

Like Castagna, the effort was there. The ball just didn't bounce for him. Consistency in small forwards is rare as hen's teeth, it's the nature of the beast. Sometimes you're hot, sometimes you're cold. His time will come.

Being honest he has not been the same since that broken foot

Dimma loves him so he won’t get dropped but should be in the gun

Looks heavier and slower than the 2017 version ,

Might be an illusion, but certainly appears that way

Were your eyes shut during the 2017, preliminary?
No excuses. The biggest dud in AFL troubles him.

Rioli hasn't come close to that 2017 Prelim performance. he can’t blame the broken leg any longer. If there wasn't another Rioli coming next year, i would consider trading him. But Maurice Junior's arrival may force that eventually anyway.

Got very little out of him, stack, Castagna.. Bolton was pretty good.

Can’t carry too many small fwds if they aren’t producing so they will all need to lift - and quickly.

It's almost like they haven't played for a few months and their fitness wasn't good enough and their skills sharp enough for their manic roles.

And the pies were happy to keep numbers spare in the backline so could get the ball out with a loose player.
They parked the bus so it was a strange and tight 2nd half.

The shorter quarters will impact too, he is the sort of player who feeds off the red zone in each quarter

I'm a fan, but thought he wasn't the greatest of contributors against the Pies.
His influence, along with many of his smaller colleagues, was little.

I love Rioli but sometimes players struggle against certain teams.
We need to see CD and Dow this year

I am just busting for the game where Daniel, Stackie, Shai and Marlion all play and rip it together on the same day.

Man we have the most exciting Quintet of Aboriginal lads going around the league when we add in Sheds.

How amazing It would be to watch these boys just tear up an opposition side on the same day.

A romantic notion but I'm not sure you can play all 5 together. With Short, Houli, Cotchin, Lambert, Baker, George and Prestia we will get outmarked around the ground by Geelong and West Coast. Balance needed. Collingwood did this in the 2018 prelim. We need height and must develop Balta.
