Welcome to Richmond Chris Yarran

my fear is that our game plan won't suit yarran, and he'll be running into brick walls with the lack of shepherding, support, linkup and movement upfield. don't know how he'll go with our chip chip sideways stop start game plan. when he was at his best carlton played a run and gun game plan under ratten where they all ran in waves and supported and linked up.

I'll be interested to hear training reports over the pre-season as early in the season we were attempting to run the ball and play on, but poor results meant that we changed our style to holding the ball and being patient with our movement.

I wonder whether they will go back to attempting to move the ball quickly knowing that if things start to go against them during games that they can slow things down again. They've stated that Yarren will be used out of defence - I hope they give him license to run and break the lines.

I'm wondering if our stop start game plan was symptomatic of our lack of speed, rather than a preferred style.

Maybe we'll see a change next year.

Well, at least he'll know that he won't be dropped - that isn't how we roll with recruited/traded players :p

My wish would be that he and houli work with George over the summer and get him to the point where he could take that rebounding defendinge played making good decisons late next year or 2017 and have Yaz play forward... I almost defintie IMO he will played down back ala houli to begin with....

Thanks. I was wondering why Hampson and Thomas were playing in the AFL team all year .... ::)

Perhaps Bachar will finally get his promise from Dimma fulfilled n play off the wing a bit. Yazz line breaking rebounding half back. Bash patrolling a wing area, half back to deep half forward. KMac big bodied crash n run inside mid.

I see this bandied about a bit but what evidence do we have he can play as an inside mid? Yes he's big bodied but what is he like at stoppages and centre clearances? Did he play that role as a junior?

To me he's perfect on a wing, just needs to tidy up his kicking and he can become an a grader. He's got a great tank and good speed, you want that type pushing up and down the ground all game and being a bit of an outlet, outside runner. The good thing about him is he won't shirk a contest and has some genuine hurt in his attack on the ball - just not sure that translates into winning contested ball at stoppages etc

agree. i am not sure he is clean enough with his hands to play inside.
IMO he is best suited to playing wing. he runs, he is tall, he is good one-on-one and he is good at keeping the ball moving forward.

with he an Ellis we have 2 good options for the wing, I would leave them there unless a better option comes along, rather than trying to turn them into something they are not.

I'd like to see Yarran played as the small forward. He's got that defensive side to his game. This is what Dimma had with Jake and it's what he wanted with Morris. Looking at Yarran's highlights and some of those chase down tackles, he'd be perfect for that pacy small forward with a defensive side to his game.

CTT that's where I too hope he plays next year, BUT we may not get our wish.

He is that crumbling , defensive, quick forward we have been wanting, better than Kingy and a better option than Morris.

Forward line consisting of:

F- Yazz, Jack,Bean
HF- Lennon, Vickery, Deleido Isn't too bad!

Definitely add some bite and has some heavy scoring potential. I know they keep talking about playing him in defence, but I can't really see how that benefits the team when we've got a settled back 6. It's not like Newman really spent that much time there last season. Yazz is exactly the sort of player we wanted in the forward line least year. I think he and Edwards could really work well together.

Exactly CTT.

Edwards and Dusty rotating through with Yazz adds some real pressure and scoring options.

Yazz forward for mine 100%

He becomes easily a 40 goal a season right there!

That's pretty much all he needs to do most of the time ;D clear a bit of working space for the likes of Cotch n Miles etc. to move around in. If he manages to hunt n distribute a bit of ball himself as well than that's just added bonus.
Pretty sure from watching his first senior season he has enough tools to work with contesting deeper, he already has plenty of capability on the outside.
Obviously with a bit more experience he will get a bit more composure to his game, but I'm thinking that he's not quite the polished silky type user so probably more suited to the heavier inside work n extracting it to the outside silk.

I don't know if this question has been asked until now.

But "Could Yarran rotate through the middle?"

Not sure if he was tried at Carlton.
How might he go with the likes of Martin, Miles, Cotch etc ?

Dunno, seems more the outside running creator than a mid. Both he n Bachar appear to be best suited as the outside smooth operator in space. Half back, wing, half forward, wide open, receiving, running, overlap players that can slice holes through opposition teams n set up forwards or finish themselves. They're both the types you get the ball out to rather than expecting them to be in deep trying to grub the ball out.

I agree. I like Yarran forward also. Defensive pressure, speed and goals in our forward line. If we were struggling to break the ball out of our D50 then send him back and along with Houli and Rance we should be fine running the ball out but I reckon this should be the Plan B and Yarran playing forward should be Plan A.

Jack - circa 50
Vickery - 30-40
Deledio - 25-30
Yarran - 25-30
Lennon - 20-25
Dusty - 25-30

Thats a heap of goals and with nothing from the rest of the team.
