Welcome to Richmond Chris Yarran

Two lessons I have learned from the Chris Yarran trade. One, never trust Carlton and their snake oil demands. Two, take with a grain of salt the medical assessments when we do our due diligence. Such was our desperation to get this over the line that we now face the prospect of missing Chris Yarran for half a season and also missing the finals. Yarran will be a free agent next year just to add salt into the wounds.

I'm almost certain that this will cost us two very good players. Take your pick out of Adams, Bonner, Balic or Mathieson from last year. Then consider a second player we are likely to lose when our second rounder becomes pick 25 or thereabouts. This just confirms to me that Hartley and co. need to be shown the door along with Frank.

Free agent? Don't the eight years or whatever it is have to be at the same club?

Bully means if he stayed at Carlton he'd be a FA at the end of this season. Then he'd be "free" and we wouldn't have had to have given up picks.

Don't knock the Yazzman BH!

Not knocking him Yazzy Days, just the process. We should have held out for a year and picked him up as a freebie. This is just typical of our short term thinking. You had me excited there for a while but I have to revert back to my pragmatic ways. Two potential 10 year players for 1 year of Yarran just doesn't add up. There may well have been a risk he would be snatched from our clutches but that's a risk worth taking.

One more year at Carlton and he qualifies, would have made sense particularly given his injury status.

Fair point, but there is no way he was staying at Carlton this year. None mate. They were clearing the decks of everyone, let alone the player who wanted out more than anyone else.

Another club, say Hawthorn who came for him late, would have come earlier and snapped him up. Guaranteed.

That's not to say we shouldn't have walked away if we thought the price was too high and gone for say a Suckling as a free agent for the role*.

Nor the mixed messages from Dumwick about step backs this year.

But if we wanted him it needed to be last year.

*Yazzy *smile* all over Suckling.

Yep no way we would have had Yarran as a free agent next year. If we wanted him we had to take him this year.

So far he hasn't shat on anyone, he's been trying to lose weight and attend to his ailing body. Call me old fashioned but Suckling + 2 players makes more sense to me, the Doggies have been the smart ones here, not Richmond.

Yeah all told you can make a case.

Fact is we couldnt have waited for Yazzy like you said mate.

No and No.

Suckling's true colour's will shine through boys.
Dual premiership player and carving it up at the dogs. Seriously not enough leysy in the "I was Wrong" thread.

Correct. Adding to this is our 2nd round pick this year is looking like it may be quite early...

Must admit I have been watching Suckling this year in envy of the Bulldogs. Can sometimes shank it but very good player nonetheless. Tiges asleep at the wheel, once again. :-(

With Leysy 100%. Suckling might be having a purple patch, but is just a player. Yarran will be at least that, and potentially and probably much more. No brainer. And as for waiting around for a year, serious? Whinging about not taking opportunities, then whinging when we take one? Come off it, I say this so often, but you can't have it both ways.

Trading for players is not like shopping at Coles where you walk along with your trolley and make your selections from the shelf based on a nice list. He who hesitates is lost.

Caveat emptor certainly is required, Melbourne tried to sell us a pup in Trengove the previous trade period. Just another reason why i dislike Roo's.
