Welcome Sam Naismith

I think he's rookied, however if not he's a delisted free agent and over 30. We don't have to sign for two years I believe.

A weird thing I heard a while ago. Initially back in 2016 - we asked Sydney about Naismith. They had Sinclair, Derickx, Tippet, Nank and Naismith. We liked Naismith, and wanted to bring him south. Sydney said we couldn't have him, but would be OK moving Nankervis on - in the belief he wasn’t athletic enough to be a no 1 ruck. We still needed a ruck, so kept the conversation going.
Several seasons later, Nank is a triple premiership player, Captain.....and we've gone back for Naismith as spare parts.

Spoke well on the club video; I guess you shouldn’t judge a book by its haircut.

(And I was judging with extreme prejudice based on his Port Melbourne haircut)

Got a very good feeling about this cheap draftee.
On the proviso that his body holds up.
Will at the very least compete physically with the bigger rucks like Soldo and Gawn who monster Nanks at the centre bounces
I suppose if he had an injury free season at Port Melb, it would be a good positive albeit at VFL level, but still good.

Played rugby before crossing over to footy at 17. Tackling numbers and physicality perhaps somewhat reflects this.

We’ll done tigers.
Glad he picked us over the other teams.

I wonder why we didn’t just rookie him? I would’ve thought he would’ve been there to pick in the rookie draft. Or Do I assume there was interest from more clubs than just Richmond and we thought it best to get in first?

What difference does it make? The idea of the rookie list is a farce- the only use being it allows draftees to be given a 1 year contract as opposed to ND picks who get at least 2.
