Welcome Judson Clarke

I’m still in…the kid is freaking 65kg’s and young. Some comments except him to be a Dan Rioli by now.

He is playing before his time due to injuries an needs to be judged on that ffs.

We expect to much of our young kids lately because of being spoilt with talent previously.

Bloody hope so, maybe a few pre-seasons will get him up to the level?

DS
He needs to get strong, adding muscle mass, high protein drinks, whatever it takes and he must be doing it now, not just waiting until the next pre-season. When he gets a stronger body he'll have more confidence to attack the contests. His arms are so skinny atm so he's doing what he can with his current body. Skinny players like Robbie Flower, Geoff Strang, the Tucks, etc. are exceptions. Lets see how hard he is prepared to work over next 12 months.

Definitely needs to get stronger. I think it will help his confidence considerably.
He has excellent skills but he's not really executing them all that well in many instances.
I think it's a confidence thing. He's hopefully getting better every game he plays even if not having much impact but currently he's battling a little at AFL level & I have no trouble saying that whatsoever.

Juddy’s biggest weakness is that he’s an aerial cipher. Lotta work to do.

He has a couple of poor executions in R8. Inexperience. Fatigue. He will make it to the level for use.

His plan for the ball is usually very good. He can run to holes and hit holes.

Juddy is developing nicely in terms of strength and positioning at ground ball. I think it’s his strength but we’ll see.

But his tackling is nowhere near the level. More to work on.

Sees goal, kicks goal. That’s his plan for the ball. He does kick them, doesn’t he? Plan.

Does not get enough ball. Partly that’s inexperience. Mainly it’s fatigue. He can’t get the miles. Usually Juddy gets his ball in the first quarter then stagnates. Less so recently as he learns to pace himself. He is budgeting his efforts. Coaching.

I still see a first year player here. One I like a lot.

agree, and an important subheading under inexperience,

is Concentration.

kids like Nick Daicos and Will Ashcroft, on top of winning The Nature and Nurture Lottery,

have minds of pure performance titanium.

they waltz out onto the G in front of 90K, only 12 months after their first shave (yeah OK, daics would have had Paul Keatings 5 o'clock shadow at 3 o'clock in primary school)

and forget everything but the footy.

while all these other half normal kids brains are spinning with

game plans, instructions, expectations, teammates feedback, opponents mind games, umpire and rule confusion ('can i or cant i go for that ground ball, like ive been taught to since i was 5?') family faces, did I eat someone elses banana or a muesli bar at quarter time?, etc etc etc

after Sampa the Great, this kid is the least of my worries

Lot of work to do on his body strength. Hopefully that translates into getting far harder at contests and becoming an effective tackler.

In the meantime, I'd play him almost exclusively as a small forward/half forward. Not strong/big enough or aerobic enough for wing at this point.

both those kids would have undoubtedly benefitted from knowing the year before they were drafted where they would be playing, which would allow them access to game plans etc, well before most other kids.

I think both Ashcroft and Daicos the Greater are vastly superior athletes to Juddy, Ez. With much bigger tanks.

While I’m certain that Daicos the Greater has a higher footy intellect and concentration than Juddy, I reckon that our man currently has Ashcroft covered. If only he could lift his legs. To be fair to Ashcroft he really is a first year player and nine months younger.

To succeed Judson Clarke will have to improve athletically and quite a bit imo. And learn. I think that likely, FWIW.

BTW RFC could really do with an Ashcroft. How do we get one of them?

We had one, but we sold him to Gold Coasts NEAFL side about 5 years ago

Wasnt trying to compare our juddy to the elites,

Just pointing out how and maybe why those instant afl kids are freakishly rare, but becoming less-so

Indeed.

But they would have known it and been absorbing footy iq

From the time they were suckling sweet milk packed with elite stem cells from their spunky, obsessive mothers

You just talking endurance, not speed?

Fast is good but he needs the sherrin in his hands..
Not convinced
Had 16 disposals against Melbourne, 20 and 5 tackles against the dogs. Half his games at VFL level he has had 15+ disposals. He can find the ball when his role allows it.

Again, turns 20 in October this year. This kid is a genuine talent.

Too early to call for me here. Still young, still has his teenage body. 2025 onwards is the real assesmentif we have a player here. I THINK he is quick, I THINK he has a lethal left foot, I THINK he has a good footy brain. Its a solid start without setting the world on fire.

Game 1 - 11 disposals - 2 goals v Port (2022)
Game 2 - 10 disposals - 1 point v Carl (2022)
Game 3 - 4 disposals - 1 goal v Gell (2022)
Game 4 - 12 disposals - 1 goal v Coll
Game 5 - 20 disposals - 1 goal v Dogs
Game 6 - 11 disposals - 1 goal v Syd
Game 7 - 16 disposals v Dees
Game 8 - 5 disposals v Suns
Game 9 - 7 disposals - 1 goals v WV

Good start, development over the next 18 months is key!

The only way it might be possible is to consider a player who is wedded to Victoria/Tasmania and make a big flashy offer to West Coast.

Daicos in particular has many elite traits.
He finds plenty of the footy and disposes of it beautifully on either side of his body. And has a very high football I.Q to see and execute kicks under fierce pressure.
But his best feature by some margin is his endurance. He just never blows up.
Judd will get better but will never be in the Daicos/Ashcroft bracket. Think he’s a burst player

His body is definitely still very slight. I saw him at the Open day a few weeks ago, and he looks like a kid still. I think we have plenty to work with him, but won't see the best until he puts a bit of size on

I would be playing him more as a small foward until he puts on more kg,s..always looks dangerous when deep foward.
